    Clam press pressure

    Hi all.
I have a PixMax 38 Clam heat press.
When I close the press the back of the heat plate hits the base plate first.
    is this normal.

it is fine when I print phone inserts or t-shirts but when I print glass clocks or ceramic ornaments I can't get a good print as there is more pressure on the rear than on the front.

to get an even print I have to increase the pressure but causes breakages.

I contacted Monster Doodles and they said that it is normal for a clam press to hit the rear of the base plate first.

has anyone else had this problem

    Andy

Yes this is normal for a clam press and is the main drawback versus a swing away. Swing away apply the pressure evenly across the platen thus avoiding the issues you're having. Some of the more expensive clam presses also manage to distribute the pressure much better.

Yeah, this is the problem with cheap clam presses. You can get better more expensive ones which don't do this, but by the time you've paid the money for one of those you may as well get a swing away, so the only advantage is if space is a problem for fitting in a swing away.

    Thanks guys.

I'm now looking to purchase a new press. I'm looking at the Adkins beta range maxi.

    Any comments on this model?

For smaller items, the Insta 201 is a very solid swing away press. I'm impressed with mine. Depends on how large you intend to do your T shirt designs though.
