Advice on 2nd Hand Adkins Press

    Hi Guys,

Anyone aware of this particular model, and able to advise on the questions to be asking the seller?

Says 'little use' but the picture shows some deformity in the base plate, or am i over thinking things?

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Adkins-20-...MAAOSwNuxXYuCo

4-5 hour round trip to collect, and not keen if it turns out to be a pig

    Thanks

    Pete

Does not look like any Adkins I've ever seen.

It's an early Adkins, similar to a PressMech - there's another Adkins model that looked exactly like a PressMech.
Not sure of the history/relationship between the two companies.

If it were local to us, we'd be interested, but would be contacting Adkins and PressMech to get their view/opinion.

When we bought the Adkins Omega 8000, we did talk to Adkins, and one of their techs talked us through the things to look or on that model before buying it.

My advice would be to look at the later Adkins beta model swing press which is still a current model and has spares backup and is very popular, lots on here use them and I've never seen anything negative posted about them. The only criticism I'd have is the depth isn't much so if you wanted to press things much over 6mm thick you might struggle although there was or is a deeper model. If I could find a second user pressmech I'd like one of those but have been very happy with my Adkins beta maxi

Didn't think to ask Adkins direct, previous experiences with asking suppliers about discontinued products met with unhelpful replies (granted a different industry though) but sound advice thank you

There is an Adkins Beta online 2nd hand, but cost is slight prohibitive at £500, plus an additional 2 hours travel time to collect.

Im in no rush for a flat press so will bide my time to see what comes up.

I love adkins, but I wouldn't but that one unless it was mega cheap and as my second backup!

I'd be checking if spares are available for it from PressMech or Adkins.
If it still works well, and replacement parts - mainly the heating element can be sourced, then it's worth the opening bid, but I wouldn't pay more

Was thinking opening bid only anyway (or close), without being certain of model number decided to leave, would appear many others did as well as never got any bids

    Thanks for advice guys

It's relisted again, am sure it's been listed a few times now and continues not to sell, could be worth messaging seller and offering him less money for it
