White residue around edges of case or on surface of mug

    Hello there,

I've been noticing that some items get a residue stuck to either the surface of the mug or the edges of a 3D case. It's a white colored residue that can be scratched, like a stuck dust.
The paper - ink combo seems to be reason, since I can see the missing part of the "surface" (or whatever the name of the treatment on the printable side is). But it's not on every pressed item. On cases it's about 50% of the times, and on mugs around 20%, with consistent temp pressure and time settings. It can be easily scratched to remove it, but cases get damaged in the process.

Has anyone had this issue or may be aware of a solution?
    Thanks guys

    Using:
    Ricoh 3110 and Sublijet-R
    Texprint-R paper
    Powerdriver v4

It will most likely be the coating. Whose mugs and cases are you using?

Cases are from either Bestsub or Sublimet (Sublimet is the one with a black ring on the camera location, sold as high quality), mugs have shown this for different models but nothing focused on a specific brand. The presence on cases is almost always there in a way or the other. Mugs is 1 out of 5, but the mugs can be cleaned of it without much trouble. The cases are the issue, since they get damaged when scratched.

Could it be related to expiring ink?

It could be although I would be surprised.

What times and temp are you using and what machine?

I have had it on mugs before, but that was a coating issue. It could be that your temperature is too hot, have you tried a phone case at a lower temperature?

    I've tried Artygamer's settings (hot puck, 200ºC 3.5 mins) and Sublimet's settings (hot puck, 140º 8 mins).

Both settings with a Sublimet case (a better quality case overall vs the bestsub's I have right now) have the same results in terms of this residue. (200º 3.5 mins shrunk it too much).
I usually use unisub settings on powerdriver when pressing a case, maybe it's using more ink than it should. I usually leave the prints to dry 5 mins before pressing but it may need more time maybe.

What settings do you guys use for 3D cases on powerdriver?

    Thanks for the replies

Oh sorry, the model is usually called SUB-S601. The one in red, black or silver, with the removable tray and the asymetrical front view.

    OK

So I presume with the times you provided you are changing between just the top oven on and both ovens?

I would say 180 degrees at 6-8 minutes with just the top oven is a suitable starting point. It would also be worth trying a different paper stock just so see if the paper is reacting to the coating somehow.

Oh great. I usually use both ovens, but I didn't think of starting with only the top one, I thought it was bottom or both only but the diagram is not very clear. I will start at 180 for 6-8 minutes then :D
have a couple of other papers to try. If I find a solution I will put it here in case someone else might have this issue at some point.
Thank you for the suggestions and responses!
