    Talking All in one printer/cutter

Hi all just wondering if anyone has a all in one printer cutter?
As they are so expensive just wanted a bit of advice..
Is it worth buying a smaller machine to start of with or should I bite the bullet and go BIG....
is there a good return on outlays....
Is the market big enough for another supplier...
Should I buy brand new or is used (from a relatable seller) ok
All help and advice would be appreciated
    thanks in advance

My opinion buy a separate printer and cutter this will give you the best speed and allow you to cut and print at the same time. You will restrict yourself to a small range of machines if you want a print and cut but if you buy separate you can have a best of breed cutter like Graphtec or Summa and a cheaper but good quality solvent printer like Mimaki or Mutoh or even Hp Latex.

    Hi Bigd

You must be very close to me :-)

I disagree with Mags on the seperate machines. I appreciate that if you are doing huge volume then perhaps it is marginally quicker, but in reality a print n cut machine can be set up and left to its own devices and leave you to crack on with something else. There are huge advantages and disadvantages to owning one of these machines and you really need to do your market research on what you want to produce etc.

For example if you are looking at individual signage, then perhaps a BN20 might suit, if you want to produce 10,000 stickers a day then you will need a different set up.

As a general rule, everyone will tell you to purchase the widest machine you can afford, and I personally favour Roland as the machines are better built and do not have the gassing off issue that the Mimaki seem to have. But then Roland are considerably more expensive.

With regards to is the market big enough? Well yes and no. There has been a huge increase in items printed (banners etc), but the prices have also dropped to quite low margins. It really is about market research.

If you want to pop round for a cuppa I will go through all the advantages and disadvantages of owning a wide format printer.

Thats a lovely offer Socialgiraffe. Id love to "just pop round someone local for a cuppa and chat" to see how they do things, look at printers and press's better than mine and see how they do stuff.

I agree with you about the cheapness of banners etc. I had a banner that went around the front and both sides of a normal sized table floor to top. With our business name and all details on and think I paid £15!!

Cheers Mugshots, not sure on the "better kit" bit though :-) I firmly believe that sharing tips and ideas is the best way to conduct business.

I am with Simon on this one.
My printer is only BN-20 but as Simon said, I just set the job and go to bed :)
In the morning vinyl is printed and cut and couple hundreds of pounds earned while I was in bed :)
