    I am really confused here!

It appears that the Joomla I am looking at has to run your web site on Joomla servers . I have a web domain all purchased and server space paid for. I just need to generate some web pages on my pc that I can upload to my serve space. There is talk of having to install a whole raft of applications before I can do anything - php & mysql were two names that I recognised.

Am I barking up the wrong tree here?

I just need something straight forward like early versions of Dreamweaver used to be - create a page, upload it, done

    HOW HARD CAN THIS BE!!??

Joomla is PHP based and will only run on a server not desktop (not strictly true as you can use some software on your PC to think it's a server) however if you've limited knowledge then check out Mobirise - IT'S FREE - easy to use - build your site on your desktop then upload to server - simples

Check out www.merielhebden.com which is built with Mobirise - mobirise.com/

... all I want to do is put a few simple web pages with a price list, who to contact, a gallery, about - not a shop, nothing clever.
Seeing you already have your own hosting, how about all the thousands of free website templates out there that you can alter to your own requirements?

Such as this for starters ...

    https://freewebsitetemplates.com/

    Hi Guys

Time to take another look at the suggestions

I just looked at webtrekkers freewebsitetemplates.com/ and that took me to wix - which someone said suffers from ads? I really don't want ads popping up all over the place. If I go to a web site and its pop up central 9/10 I just leave before they start to annoy me (not very long at all). The only time I stay is if I really need something from that web site. I think its a grumpy old man thing wher the more someone throws adverts at you the less likely you are to buy from or read the web page.

Next item on the agenda is mobirise.com/

    here goes!

Those free templates are available to download, alter to your satisfaction, then upload to your own servers. They advertise Wix but the templates themselves have nothing to do with Wix.

Try downloading one and unzipping it. It just contains the css, html, and js necessary to run the site, plus maybe a Photoshop template. I could have that up and running my own design in less than an hour.
