    Lesson learnt

Last week I had a customer who supplied me with his logo in Ai formate. I dont have Adobe , so I sent the datai to someone who does to convert it to eps. Came back and I printed the 4 t.shirts and sent them by post to the customer.
Problem was that in the Ai image the text wasnt converted to curves and it opened with a default text. All wrong, and the guy who converted it didnt tell me either.
Customer was on my doorstep when I opened this morning and he was not a happy bunny. He needed the shirts for some show last saturday.
Spent an hour printing the right image while he waited and stamped around my shop. Not a good start to the week.

What I have learnt ( and should have known better) is to send an image to the customers who send me images that I have to convert. Just to be on the safe side.

    It's always annoying.
I always send them a proof and mock up, even if they provided the artwork. I get them to confirm that layout, spelling, colours, quantities etc are all ok.

This is definitely one to watch out for. Even loading a document into Photoshop on another machine may cause fonts to be substituted.

Another reason for sending proofs is that I am notorious for making typos or copying and pasting something in a rush that has the last character missing due to bad selection. I've even scanned over my own work before and not seen the error!

You'll always hear good carpenters say 'measure twice, cut once,' and the same applies in this game.

I always get the artworked check but this was, as usual, a rush job that had to be sent out by carrier so it got to the customer on time. He supplied a jpeg of the image as well but stupidly I didnt open it. Oh well, S**t happens. My fault.

    Haha!

I'll bet the dustbins standing out back of the Annual Dr. Who Convention are nervous!
