    Adkins Beta Maxi

    Hello,
Just wondering, does the Adkins Beta Maxi have enough clearance to press slate/ceramics? For all of you that seem to have these, would you know please?
Thinking of picking one up from Longforte here.... http://www.longforte.com/38x50-adkin...lat-heat-press
That's a Beta Maxi right? With the 10% forum discount, looks good from Longforte. Or can someone recommend someone else to buy from?
    Thanks,
    Beco

Adkins are great presses, slates will be ok but won't lock down onto thicker acrylics etc. You can buy a lower platen to do them but it's not cheap. I made my own, just got a piece of steel cut to size and bought a pad to go on top. Fixings to keep it in place and it worked a treat.

38mm between top of silicone on lower platen and top platen when open on the Major.

But remember you need to lock down.

Thanks for replies. So i wouldn't be able to press something 38mm thick, but maybe up to 15mm then?

Yes, I can't remember what the thickness is, I know I couldn't do 20mm with the standard platen.

OK, Now I'm a bit confused. Xpres have the Beta Maxi (dearer than Longforte) here http://www.xpres.co.uk/p-7924-swing-...s-20-x-15.aspx but they also have another version by the looks of it here.. http://www.xpres.co.uk/p-8244-beta-m...s-20-x-15.aspx .
It says that the Multiplex version "offers the capability to press plaques." does it have more of a gap? No point ordering the regular and not being able to press the slate/ceramics properly.
Is it that the Beta Maxi is meant for tshirts only really?

Give them a call and talk it through. There is or was a version with deep impact or more height range, could be that

Can't argue with the Pressmech, excellent presses. I like the adkins and have used them, but the Pressmech is my preference.
