    Hi Social
That's interesting as I pondered very much the same points. I did identify one market which was the "print and sell own designs" where the individual was running off a small batch of each design on individual cases, hence doing all the designs for iphone 5 cases, then switch jig and repeat.

I had gone down the 'assume' route when saw it was a 3 day show.... starts on a Sunday!

Tuesday will be the day I go then so have a chance to go back Thursday if needed.

The biggest problem with the 3d cases I always found was keeping them a correct fit after going through the heat process. To many would cool slightly out of shape so they don't always fit the phone perfectly. This is why I liked the thought of the 2 part case but just not quite right on the look. It was a couple of years ago I last checked into it though.

    Re Hd Phone covers

Hi Yes i think you are correct in that the sublideck isn't your run of the mill dye sub machine for the mass market but definitely for the volume phone case manufacturer. Yes if you were swapping jigs all the time you would need them in a separate oven keeping up to temp. Our normal 3D cases are £0.98 making a difference in £0.47 which in my opinion people selling them at £10-£15 is worth it (but just my opinion) yes a sheet of the film is £0.50 making a finished cover just over the £2 mark by the time you add in ink costs. Obviously that cost doesn't take in time, electric ect.
£1.19 for a trade price does seem very low.
However what Justin asked was there a better quality case on offer from the normal Chinese ones which when you see them side by side we definately think there is, but like everything you normally get what you pay for.
Like you said it will not be for everybody but the bespoke market in the £10-£15 bracket i think its the perfect machine.

It's an extra £1.15 +VAT to be fair. Plus the film is 50p, a sheet of dye sub paper is about 5p based on 3 per sheet. So total cost to print one case is £1.60 + VAT EXTRA.

If you are selling direct to consumer then I do not think it is that much to worry about considering cases can go for about £10-15. If you are drop shipping or selling to trade then the unit cost is very significant.

The other issue with this machine is I can not quite fathom the target audience who will purchase the machine.

If you are selling to someone who sells direct to consumer, then ideally you need a machine that can be changed from one phone model to the next quickly and easily. You can do this with the Sublideck, but... you will need another oven somewhere to keep the other jigs warm. Otherwise waiting for a jig to warm up each time you change models is going to get very annoying.

If you are selling to someone who wants to do small ish bulk runs, then the unit cost needs to come down significantly.

When I saw this printer at P&P I did (and still do) think it's a great machine, just a wee bit confused. I did ring a customer of mine to find out how much they pay for printed phone cases on bulk orders and they said £1.19 a unit. So I just can not fathom who will buy this machine, it is a great machine and I would be interested to find out who is buying the machine in terms of who their customers typically are.

I know that most drop shippers charge around the £5-6.00 mark for a phone case, so even with that price point it you are only going to make about £3.75 a case. Take away VAT, electricity and all the other costs and you are down to minimum profit.

    Could not agree more :-)

Are you able to take a photograph of each case with the same design on the back, would the difference show up or is it more about the build quality of the case?

It is a great little machine, and if I could justify it I would order it now, but because I work in trade/B2B sales it is never going to get much work unfortunately.

    Yes and no :-)

I have printed them, but to be honest I sort of knocked it on the head due to it being a pain in the neck. That is what I liked about the Sublideck. Only problem for me is the price which is not your fault, it is what my customers pay as they are cheap skates :-)

Sorry socialgiraffe made a bit of a blunder with my figures the cases retail at £1.75 and not £1.45 like i stated, so that makes them another 0.30p more expensive, its been a long day!!!!!! See the image below the quality is excellent.
