    Newbie questions

So having read lots of posts, tutorials and a few YouTube videos I have a few questions.

Firstly - Dip or no dip ? Some seem to while others don't. So hands up if u dip it or use an alternative cooling method?

Also, should I use anything between the mug press and mug ?

Does it depend on the mugs being used?

I've got a galaxy mug press and printing using a Ricoh printer (with ICC profile for the inks).

I'm looking for a good combination of A4 sheets and mugs so any recommendations would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Hi Shinko

I start of my business in April and this forum has been great in problem solving. all I can say you learn a lot with experience and I have a lot to learn yet.

I never use to dip due to the fear of cracking but what I found was the mug print would not look so sharp and you would see a colour run on some of the colours, so I now have a bucket of water at room temp and dip straight away, the images come out so much sharper. no cracking

Dura glaze mugs are great but last week I had tried the longforte mugs. ordered them as they had free delivery. these are cheaper but to be honest the quality seems great on them. I was happy with the result and have done over 500 mugs this week.

I've only ever used TMT dye sub paper, find I get a great result with it

I guess its all going to come down to experience and don't be scared to print and try. the more mugs you print, the more you learn

    hope this has helped

    thanks
    Dal

Thanks Dal. Totally agree about the learning curve. I've only done a few so far with mixed results.

I'm confident with the temp and times with the Galaxy press. I just want to get a good combination of paper and mugs that produce the results.

Will be interesting to see if others also dip :)

Can I ask where you purchased your mugs?

    Cheers
    Phil

See, I find exactly the opposite. I leave my printed mugs to cool naturally and the prints are fine. I have tried dunking them in warm/hot water (to avoid cracking) but the results were the same. Experimentation is the name of the game.

I use Listawood 10oz Durham AAA mugs.

Used to dip years ago but now I cool fairly slowly with a large fan, no migration or blurring etc.

I use Xpres 5013 Mug, Sawgrass inks, Trupix paper.
