there is ;) what would you say about GIMP?? painshop pro or photoimpact? photoimpact is magic! its ok if somone want to use simple software. nothing wrong with this... but i love to have that little extra options that let me be more creative.
I realy recomend photoimpact. you can easly tweek your photos with only couple of clicks. change your photos to lovely look calendars etc.. you can download it from here: http://www.ulead.com/pi/
GIMP is nice and has loads of options but I find it a real pain to actually do anything with it. It has so many functions and tweaks that it doesn't lend itself to being simple enough when doing the simple things. Sometimes all I want to do is to trim out a bit of the background. I'm used to just clicking a cut-out select tool, selecting the amount of feather edge or anti-alias, and getting on with it, but GIMP doesn't make it easy.

GIMP is a good compromise, but doesn't quite do it for me - the portable version takes some time to load up, too.. It'll do in the absence of anything else.

I've used various version of PaintShop Pro over the years. The best version I used was version 4.5. From about version 5 onwards, it started putting on weight until, by today, it's a Corel Bloatware. I have one of the later versions here somewhere but I rarely bother to install it because of the bloat.

I haven't used Photo Impact since the very early versions. Maybe I'll look into it to see what it does these days. I'd prefer the software to be portable, though. I install enough things as it is. ;)

I've found some lightweight portable graphics software - such as FastStone Viewer, Fotografix, and RealWorld Paint. I'm sure if I start using one of them more, I'll have less to complain about.

Yeah, I know, I should spend more time with it. Trouble is, I say to myself "I just want to crop out the background, do I spend 10 minutes using an old, inadequate, inefficient copy of Fireworks from 1998 --- or do I spend two hours trying to figure out what the GIMP can do?"

Needless to say, I'm lacking in enthusiasm when it comes to learning GIMP.

Hi Paul, with conde to be able to use their templates and other stuff you have to place a order with them so that they can make a account for you apparently, I registered and tried to access templates and other stuff but got no where so i sent a email to find out why i couldn't do any thing even though i had registered and was told the below, (I never placed a order and found templates else where)
" PartnerNet is reserved for our customer base only. If you would like to establish this type relationship then a purchase will need to take place. Because of your location, I would suggest purchasing online. I have attached a form for wire transfers. If you will please send me your address, I will enter you into our system. This will allow me to pull your online order once placed and process for you, Then you will be able to access the full benefit of the web site".

Hope that helps with the conde problems

    Adam

Just a quick 1 as i know this is a really old thread I was going to look at tghe templates etc that are there but when I click on the first link next to download it says the file is private and the second link a little way down the first thread opens and shows a load of templates etc in cdr but when i click on them it just opens a word document which i cannot do anything with.

Anyone any ideas does not matter of there not about anymore just was perusing the forum and came across it

Right click on the cdr and select "save target as...". It'll say it's a html file but once it's downloaded change the file extension to .cdr and it will open with CorelDraw.
