I have just put a mug in water and there was a loud crack, can't see anything wrong with the mug, would it be wise and do another and put that one in the bin

You could try pouring boiling water into it to see if it leaks. Cracks expand under that type of heat but obviously contract when cold. We've been caught out with that before when a mug looks perfectly fine to the eye and leaked when making coffee.
What a great idea, and how simple many thanks, maybe it could in the tip section.
we stopped dunking over a year ago as we had too many of those noises. The thought of a mug cracking and spilling the contents over a customer was too frightening. We let cool naturally and doesnt take long.
I always use a fan but as there was only two mug I was lazy and use the water method. Won't do that again in a hurry. I used hot water and nothing once again many thanks for that

From my experience it tends to be different mug supplies that do it. Some will dip in cold water with no problem whilst others you nearly always get a ping noise when contracting.
