    blocked epson 1400

I have been offered an epson 1400 with ciss system (sublimation) for free. it hasn't been used for over a year and the guy suspects it is clogged... Is it possible to get these printers back to good working order or will it just be a waste of my time trying to clean it? any tips on where to start if he head are blocked. Thanks

Epson support centres charge £30 to attempt to unclog (using cleaning solution, time and effort). Worth £30 anytime. Check to see if you local Epson Authorised repair centre offers the same (locations on Epson's website).

If he only "suspects" its clogged, then it's worth a gamble. Most of the time I find that my Epson 1400s (that I don't use much now), fire up quite well after a couple of headcleans. If there is a stubborn colour then leaving it overnight tends to deal with it 90% of the time.

It's worth a try just to see if it's not as bad as the guy thinks.

The ink itself might not be much cop after a year, though. Getting some OEM carts and popping them in would probably serve you better than forcing out-dated and aged sublimation inks through the heads (dye-sub ink is typically thicker than regular dye ink).

Hi i had problems with magenta on my epson 1400 and artaniumUV CIC inks.
Did everything recommended in the forum and web suggested to sort out the problem but had no results. I then replaced the print cartridges etc etc and nothing happened ended up buying a new printer thinking it was the print head and still it didnt work. To cut this long story short the only thing i didnt repalce was the bulk ink holder itself! contacted sawgrass and they replaced the system and all worked ok.
But this is the second time in three years this has happened and with the same magenta ink so i do believe if you don't print on a regular basis the inks dry up in the piping and leave a skin which blocks the pipe on the base unit.

Many members (myself included) are starting to move more towards refil carts over the CIS bulk systems and finding the going a lot easier.

Thats a very good point Justin, I was thinking of starting with refillable carts.
