Ricoh SG 3110 Faded Black Problems

    Hi everyone,

I am a sublimation noob and I have set up a small business doing iphone covers through sublimation.

My issue at present is faded black images.

Every other colour comes out perfectly using my setup.

I have tried numerous times to print with numerous settings 170 -190 degrees with 60 up to 120 seconds but no avail, the other colours look great while the black is very matty and faded.

I am using Photoshop Cs6 with Powerdriver, I followed the Sawgrass guide to a tee in setting up the printer etc. I am using truepix setting for paper and perceputal in cs6 setting and saturation in powerdriver setting.

I am using paper from Coralgraph and a coralgraph Heatpress also.

The print outs seem to be much darker than what ends up on the sheet but at the same time leaving it for longer time/ more pressure/ extra temp doesnt change the outcome.

I also have taken the plastic off :)

I will try upload a few photos to the post now.

    Regards

    Adam

Coralgraph have some great products, unfortunately their cheap paper isn't (in my experience) any good :-( This may not be the only problem here but a good starting point would be to get some Trupix paper and have a go with that....you'll see a big difference.

Please will you send this same message to our Tech Dept at support@sawgrasseurope.com, as they may be able to tweak your setting to improve the black, or tell how else to improve the print. It may also be a paper issue, with not enough ink being released.
    thanks

Hi guys thanks for the quick reply,

I am a poor Uni student who is trying to make some money out of this so hence the cheap paper.

What paper would u recommend and what source?

Paul, I have been printing on the shiny side but this paper's shiny side isnt all that shiny :/.

Ill try the "matty" side now to be sure (I tried and its much worse on the black see pic below) , ill attach some non black ones and they look really good but anything with black is fairly pants.

I am using white metal as my substrate type I assume that is correct yes?

    Regards

Agree with Paul there, Xpres paper if you're on a budget.

You haven't told us what printer and inks you're using?

    Hey Justin,

[h=I am using a Ricoh SG 3110DN as in the title, I am using the sawgrass ink for this printer I believe.]2[/h]
Is there any settings or mistakes I am making or is it more a paper issue?
