I'm looking into this and I got a quote from a supplier stating that I can buy for £349 which includes a machine, scale, meter and 1 ink cart (which is approx. 1400 stamps). On a large letter 250g I'm saving 18p or 30p on a small parcel size. So with each printed "stamp" costing 2p each I'm down to saving 16p/28p. plus the labels I would need to buy which cost around 2p each (reducing the savings to 14 & 26p) - it would take me saying a saving of 20p on average - 1700 items before I make my money back.
BUT.... how much does it cost to top up a machine on average?
Why use a franking machine just set up an account and use your PC no rental/ink/charging fee and great savings. And only one label instead or two per item.
Who does that?
Nice idea...but I can't get mugs in a large envelope. Perhaps I'll do phone covers then!
Janners
Phone covers, tee shirts, bags etc all less than 25mm
We use a franking machine, and have done for a couple of months. Its great, and saving us a small fortune, but I find the scales to be VERY slow and quite annoying!
I don't know if its still true, but I found out a couple of years ago that a Post Offices are paid by piece work so when you drop off a load of pre-paid parcels they don't earn money on they can find it quite frustrating...
We've got a deal with our local sorting office that we can drive round the back and drop our franked post off there lots quicker and easier! :D
Bringing this post back up to the top, as i have had a call from a Pitney Bowes man today, who assures me it is now much cheaper and easier, to have a machine than "ever before" and that I would be nuts not to consider having one.
On ebay i use probably 40/70 large letter stamps a week and 10/15 std letter stamps - its always hard to estimate ebay as last week I did 50 the week before I did 107.
Then there are probably 2-3 parcels a week. So am I going to remain "nuts" or are there savings to be had ?
