    Question Water Bottles 70mm ?

I have an order for Water Bottles, am yet to find a supplier but I need white 'Aluminium' as I cant use Plastic as I don't want to intentionally melt anything in my Adkins.

So, As my usual Mugs are 80mm diameter I will need to use a filler/heat Transfer material - I have this, which is from a shi@@y Pixmax press and am wondering IF this will transfer the heat required for the job:

    sheet.jpg

    The Water Bottles are 70mm.

Is this material a Heat Transfer type? it is supposed to be on the bottom of the heat press - opposite to the heat plate, the part you place substrates on.

If not can anyone specify exactly what I need please?

I do have various thickness mouse mats around the place but would rather use the correct tool for the job.

Can you not use a thinner mug press?

    Hi Nik

The material you have there looks like closed cell silicon rubber foam - basically an insulator. Its meant to give you a firm pressing surface and retain the elements heat in between pressings.

Silicon will transfer heat - but very slowly and I would think it will take ages to get hot enough to get sublimation going.

If you could put a piece of it behind your element so the element is still in contact with the water bottle you should be ok - just a question of whether the Atkins will let you do it. At least you won't have a mug handle in the way of the element!

    regards

    Arthur

Thanks Arthur, yes - its meant for the base of a press so makes sense its an insulator.

I have the pixmax press I can mess with - will look at that later.

DOnt really want to shell out on another blanket for a 15 item job.

I've printed 1000's of water bottles using my standard Adkins Studio blanket with sheets the same as the one you've pictured :-) Mine are 5mm thick and I allow about 20 secs extra on cooking time.

Excellent, I will cut this to size and do some testing in that case.

    Mine is 8mm thick.

I have a smaller element for porcelain mugs which works with bottles but you don't get far enough around them.

I use the Listawood Genie press with the smaller 70mm blanket. I also use their water bottles and it works very well.

If you do not get much joy Nik then let me know and I could probably press the 15 for you.

Thats very kind of you Simon, we are due another visit soon in any case - catch up on the new technology in your workshop :)

I am going for Listawood bottles and have made a blanket filler so will order a few more to experiment with but if I have no luck I will pop over :)
