From my experience yes you can "overcook" and "burn" the ink. Sorry I forgot to say in my post I normally rest the press on the slate, print and membrane for about 30 seconds to heat the ink up before I actually apply the pressing pressure.

We had the Ricoh 3110 a while back, that thing was nothing but a pain in the bum! .... Swapped it for a brand new modified Epson WorkForce WF-7110 with a CISS Ink System and had zero issues since.
