View Full Version : sunangel not transferring cleanly

Ok so I went ahead and bought the sunangel transfer system and I'm currently trying to make a tshirt with the colour printer only which they say you can do as the adhesive gives the opaque layer. The temp guide says 120c but with my press its more like 180 before the 2 papers separate easily the only issue I'm having now is when I press onto the tshirt and wait till cooled and peel off backing its pulling finer details from the edge of the image ive tried lowering pressure and increasing time but cant seem to get it to work and ive wasted 3 of my 10 transfers that I bought aswell anyone have any ideas? P.s heat press is a df450d bought from a member of the forum

Wrong way........... MORE pressure and temperature HAS to be accurate.

http://www.dyesubforum.co.uk/vbforum/attachment.php?attachmentid=3343&stc=1I reduced the temp back to 120 and I'm peeling the transfer apart on the press and that's working now its just when peeling from the shirt I'm doing a sugar skull which has a separate thin outline but it just breaks apart ill attach the image, im only testing it around 10cm tall

Issues again doing a print for a friend of my wife and its pressing awful, ive had some luck with the system recently but its acting up again using heavy pressure and even laying the print on siliconepad the transfer and adhesive separate neatly but when pressing on t shirt the edges of the image and text are clinging so badly they pull of the shirt or tear the image and text I need to do this by Wednesday and so far I cant see this working especially as I have two adhesive sheets left any ideas why this clinging is so bad or how I can fix this?

Cant advise on your problem sorry but can share my settings which are 125c on my press and i press for 35 seconds. this is working for me, one bit of advice i could give is print off about 10 of the skulls on a a4 page so quite small and press at different times etc onto ONE t-shirt ,

I dont run Sunangel, I have TMT. But Im sure they both work the same or similar ways. Temps and times might be different though.
It is very important that you use a very high pressure when pressing the white sheet to the print sheet. Before pressing get everything hot. Put all the baking papers, silicon papers/sheets , whatever you use to cover the press etc, all must be hot before you put the white and print into the press. pressure is the maximum your press will stand. Im 15 stone and use all my weight to close the press. Temp is also critcal, for TMT I use 145c and press for 35 secs. Then open the press and while the papers are still on the press, seperate the two papers instantly. Leave the silicon sheet covering the print to hold the heat in. And do not wait or the seperation will not work. Yes it will burn your fingers, you will have to get used to it.
Then to print onto the t-shirt I use 135 to 140c for 5 secs.

just an idea, but when i saw them at a show they did seem approachable, have you called them and asked them for help ??

i have no idea about whether it would help if the image was cleaner, as there appears to be more than 1 red in the image

Is it possible that you have some sort of coating on the material that is causing the problem.

I use a lot of SunAngel papers ahn have no problem. I cant stress enough the importance of temperature and pressure with both sunAngel and WoW systems..... TMT (WoW) even go to the extens of specifying specific presses and specialist pads to use their WoW papers this is to highlight the importance of a GOOD stable press. Both systems can play up with clam type presses due to the uneven pressure that they can apply compared to a vertical drop/rise type press.

I know for a fact that the sunAngel system will work fine at single pixel resolution happily transferring a laser's security code to your prints Grrrr so annoying sometimes.

I have tried something different that seemed to work I took the silicone mat off of my old cheap wonky and wiggly swing away press and put that on top of the mat in my big clam press to get a higher pressure when pressure screw is fully tightened and set the pressure so high that I could barely close it and set temp to 122 and the transfer and adhesive peeled apart beautifully. I then put tshirt on press lint rolled and pressed for 15 secs, put transfer on tshirt in press and secured with heat tape in corners pressed and allowed to cool but not cold which I think makes a lot of difference as when I pulled the transfer off the tshirt the backing paper clinged to the design a lot less and peeled clean. Ive taken notes in my little book of setups for this and fingers crossed will work in future aswell. Thanks for replying again and reminding me of the fact that althought my pressure screw was full it still wasn't enough.

That's the main reason I got the big adkins pneumatic press, my wife could not close the manual press with the required pressure for SunAngel/WoW papers to work 100%.

thinking of getting a new press been offered an adkins studio 15inch by 15inch for 425 anyone have any experience with this press?
