I seen football team pee on each other which is not copyright. My kits are in this format but not peeing) its a shirt and shorts socks ect past and present in the teams colours, so all teams I suppose.

Is it just colours or logos as well? The logos are copyright.

I don't do the image peeing but I use to sell football stickers that did I thinks these was pee ons some company in Wales, they sold really well but it was cost quite a bit to keep it top up you had to keep all the teams in case someone wanted it, but three years we changed direction becuse people was spending less and we cut down the number of lines we did. But for anyone else thats looking for a new line these did well for us, the board we had to display them was huge. So its only the kits, if no one is sure I'll check with the trading standards chap he's always helpful. (Its true they are there to help us)

Careful folks
i produced a mug with man u on it and red back ground i genuinely thought that wasnt copyright. How wrong was i . A less than polite letter from the clubs legal bods asked me to remove the item from sale or else. Basically any thing more or less with any combination of manchester united is copy right including man u, mufc, manchester, and on and on in other words the clubs pretty much have it sown up. though im fairly sure you can reproduce teams kits in team colours but no badges or text

Thats how I read it but get confused as the lines cross very finely, I had a friend who had a unit selling childrens clothes and she brought form a wholesale some look alike bob the builder and woolies had the copyright and sent in the trading standards, they came with a big van and took loads of stock that was not related to that, long and short she brought legit but it was her stock they took, she got most of them back but the look alike bob the builder stuffed stayed with them, took months to sort out and she lost money. She brought for a large whole seller with a good name. A whole sale chap has asked to do his mug and mousemats, he'll be giving me the images but I just did't want to caught out doing wrongand not knowing it.

two football player say liverpool and man u one sticker is having a pee on liverpool and the image is doing it to the other team, you can't see anything but the impression is that, football suppoters buy them in their droves to put on there window or car stickers. Not my taste but half of what I sell is not to my taste but its what customers want and if its not in to poor taste and pays my rent I sell it, but it made me money at the time but too many teams to keep it up with all the other lines we do. As I said we had a cut back on the lines that we did and it went.

I couldn't agree more. . . most of what I sell I would not buy but hey like you say it pays the bills. Going back to the peeing, do you think if I google that I might find them as i'm dying to see it now.

Geez, what's the world coming to? What happened to the good ole football yob and the street riots? All becoming a bunch of pansies it would seem.

Voodoo dolls, indecent behaviour towards other teams' emblems....

This "football" is what they call the "beautiful game", isn't it?

It must be some definition of the word "beautiful" that I was previously unaware of. I'll go get my dictionary...

I have loads left in anyone is intrested I'll post one on, he sold them for about £1 and I sold them on for two, the min buy was £200 and I was always topping them up, its a good line for anyone intrested. I'v tried to get the paper to do what I do (not football) but as usual I never have any time, I'm of to Portsmouth Dockyard next week end for three days and am busy getting stock ready to show there. Its our last gig for the year, and what with working 6 days aweek and doing the artwork and stuff in the evening, keeping a eye on the website, plus mother, Nanna housewife, and most importantly a sex goddess  ( as if I have the time ) so I'll post them on but after I've been to Portsmouth, but for any budding entrepreneur it does not break copyright provided you do not copy his design (its copyrighted) it will be a good earner. Your name and that your address will be kept confidential. Offer there if you want it.

yeah I'd be carefull here!

I got a nice letter from Umbro about a pop-art design i had on eBay of Steven Gerrard in an England top. Even though you couldnt make out the 3 Lions and the Umbro logo it was still removed and they tried "without prejudice" to fine me £1500. I called them up and asked why? They said it wasnt the actual design but the fact that Umbro own the copyright to the England shirt and thats what they were doing me for.

I told the guy in no uncertain terms to F**k off and heard nothing for 6 months until i got another letter threatening to take me to court. I "filed" it and heard nothing again.

Bascially they were trying it on without taking me to court - "without prejudice". Any judge wouldve thrown it out of court because it was laughable what they were doing me for.

Anyways...

Ive been contracted to Aston Villa to do canvases for them and I know that they hold rights on the team colours, so do many clubs. Its the way you put the colours together and the connotation of what you're doing thats at question.

You can check whats copyrighted by going to the Patents website and having a look through there. The football teams list whats copyrighted and how e.g. Manchester United, Man U, The Red Devils (in the football class) are all copyrighted. Now you actually get away with Liverpool as long as you dont put "F.C." after it. Liverpool is of course a city and you're selling a mug with that on it. I dont think theyve copyrighted the use of red, white and green but i know that you could use the image of the Liver Bird with "Liverpool". The Liver Bird is the emblem of the city and isnt copyright. This is what you're up against; trying to find different connotations and combinations.

My advice is that if you do get caught, its more hassle for the teams to take you to court unless you're doing like 10,000 mugs a week...so just plead ignorance, apologise and remove the product quick sharp because they will be back. Then look for another idea :(

Its a fine line indeed. proceed with caution.

cheers
Dave.
