Being still relatively new to Sublimation printing here's a question :o ,
I currently put my 'Military' orientated designs onto Wycombe mugs for which I use the mug wraps and JML (the world would be a much darker place without JML) Oven supplied by my good friends at Transfer Press.
Looking on here at the suppliers page, I noticed that it's possible to put designs onto some rather nifty looking 0.5l steins!! But, what would I need? Presumably a differently sized wrap? And what of my oven would I be right in thinking it would be too small for the height of the stein as, with the mugs I place them in bottom facing upwards as recommended ?
Any advice from someone with experience would, as always, be gratefully received
Regards and thanks in advance
Malc

If you have an adjustable wrap then these should fit around a beer stein. They are only a little wider than normal mugs (and of course taller). Is you're oven will take the height then you should be cooking on gas (or is that electric forthe JML? :) )

It depends which steins you're looking at. If you're looking at the 0.5L "barrel" steins from Listawood then you'll need a new wrap because they're 100mm in diameter. You can buy the wraps from Revolution Transfers: http://www.revolutiontransfers.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=MUG-LITE (select the 100mm one).

The steins sold by BMS are generally 80mm diameter over the printable area, so you can get away with a regular wrap or heat press blanket. I haven't tried any of the new-style BMS steins because it seems to me that the steins are getting less and less ornate. They used to be very ornate with a gold line around them at the top and bottom; then they were replaced by a semi-ornate white style with no gold line; and now they are not in the least bit ornate with an ugly-looking square handle.

If your oven isn't tall enough for the stein, you'll need a stand-off ring which costs £13 from JML direct - http://www.jmldirect.com/Halogen-Oven-Ring-PH1600/. You may need to adjust your times, though, because the metal acts a bit like a heat sink.

I print them in normal mug press. can not close it so need to hold the handle for 3 min. looks perfect after press.
