Hi there

I've never printed a mug or t-shirt yet, but i'm hoping to start a business doing just that.

I have a very basic question:

Do I need different paper and printer ink for the mugs and shirts, ie transfer paper and standard ink for shirts, sublimation paper and sublimation ink for mugs? Meaning i'd need 2 printers?

This is just what i gathered from reading on the forum.

Thanks and hello!

Hello and welcome to the forum :) i'm sure you'll find it as helpful as i have

it basically depends on what you want to print on
for sublimation products ie. mugs, caps, coasters and sub T's then yes you need a dedicated printer with sublimation ink and special sub paper

but you can also do other types of T shirts with a normal inkjet printer with normal ink using the transfer paper
but as you'll read in the forum the results of these are pretty poor and only really for promotional work or short term events
they are not designed for good quality work

hope that helps :)

Maybe try rephrase that smitch as your really doing this forum an injustice - all this kind of work is promotional work, if you can't put an image on a t'shirt that lasts you're in the wrong game and either an Indian or cowboy - time to buy into something completely different with hopefully a bit more homework done next time.

Cheers John
