View Full Version : Donations - Comic Relief

I've put the donations bar up again for March. I'd very much like to send more money to Comic Relief and whilst I've donated personally I feel compelled to do more.

If you've recently joined and benefited from the forum as many members have please consider donating just a small amount even if it's just £1.

I'm always touched at the generosity of the UK public during these appeals and tonight has been particular emotional. I don't want to get into any politics of why we should or shouldn't help. If you don't want to donate I understand but please don't respond to this thread with any negative comments.

Love him or hate him, Chris Moyles did a cracking job staying on air for over 52 hours and whilst I'm not his biggest fan I found myself addicted to the red button footage as though it was the first ever Big Brother! Seeing Lenny Henry break down on TV tonight really brings it home.

Justin,
I'll donate one of our DF14 mug presses if you want to organise some form of auction/ bidding process through the DSF. I'll let you decide how to promote this and the auction can run beyond the final days of March if you think giving it longer will give it more exposure to maximise the revenue for Comic Relief. Will include delivery to any UK mainland address as well. This would have a normal buy price of just under £400 including delivery so should boost the total nicely (and/ or give someone on the DSF a bargain!).

That's very kind Martin and much appreciated :-) I'll put my thinking cap on and be in touch.

In the meantime, if anyone has any great ideas on how to auction etc. please let me know!

if you sold virtual raffle tickets at £10 a pop, 39 tickets, publish the names and ticket number allocated - then agree the date of the draw, sat or wed, then use the first number drawn in the national lottery - that way everyone has a chance to win (well up to 39 people do lol)

Very good of you Martin - and an excellent idea from Mrs Maggot for the lottery too!

Hope it raises a lot of money.

thanks john, surprised there have been no other comments from Justin or Paul ?? maybe its not such a good idea after all ??

Yes, saw this the other day but only just got round to commenting - I think it would work and someone would get a decent bit of kit. Unless its for legal reasons, as in its gambling.

Give me chance! busy busy ;-) Yes, I think it's an excellent idea. As long as we can sell a decent number of tickets and make it worthwhile, would you suggest random number allocation or allow folk to choose their own?

mrs maggot
22-03-2011, 09:44 PM
ad them onto a spreadsheet, then random sort them, if people want number "3" and someone else has already got that number then it might put them off choosing another from the 38 left lol - do you think we have enough people for the 39 numbers ?? thats the only problem, but it seems right to get the monies worth the machine that martin is offering

Unless its for legal reasons, as in its gambling.

If it's all done in the open I don't see any issues. The number being drawn from the lottery is a great idea, saves any arguments there. Maybe I should have a list of numbers here and when each 'ticket; is sold the name is put alongside. Can't see any legal implications....I'll take a chance on that for charity! lol.

It would be a shame if we only sold a handful of tickets. We have enough regular member traffic coming through in theory but it'd just be up to you guys to buy them!

well i would suggest an email from you & martin, sent out to everyone, explaining whats happening how and when etc

im on for a ticket, can only afford the one at the moment, but you have your first tenner from me

Does anyone know if PayPal payments can be taken for charity without fees? Seems a shame that they take a slice.

mrs maggot

if you are sent paypal as a "personal payment" they wont take a % otherwise people would have to donate it to comic relief themselves, and perhaps give you a receipt number or something, its the same with the just giving sites - they take a % as well

if you send it as a personal "gift" there are no fee's to pay

and i'll have 1 :)

ps the gift thing works for most payments sent as long as it's not ebay lol
so if anyone donates here tell them to make it as a gift and it won't cost either of you any money :)
that what we do on my forum when ppl donate :D

exelent idea Laura! Belive me I did answer right under your post but when i clicked post reply my broadbandwhen out the window for day and a half :( i was logn in on my nokia as i am quite addictedto this place lol :D

rtegards to 39 people if this will be a problem to find them somone may purchase more then one number :) and in this way we may "sell" 39 ruffle tickets :)

The only problem that would arise from paypal is if anyone mentioned "raffle" at all. I speak from experience and a limited account for doing this in another group as paypal don't condone gambling :(

Oh, and I'll have a ticket aswell, and might be easier to have it as the bonus ball, not everyone will be watching to see what number comes out first. :-)

mrs maggot
23-03-2011, 09:00 AM
i thought the bonus ball was a lower number ??? but i dont play the lottery so i have no idea, i looked online, so i must have looked at the wrong lottery (how many are there now!!), a great idea kaz

Kaz
23-03-2011, 11:04 AM
The bonus ball can be any of the numbers from 1-49, which is the same balls from the main draw, not sure where you got 39 from Laura, lol

AdamB

Cracking idea there Laura - when it starts I'll definatly have one (or maybe two if I you can throw in the numbers from 40-49 for free ...........)

mrs maggot
23-03-2011, 12:50 PM
Brill so we need 49 people for a tenner each then,

like i said kaz i went on the lottery website, and saw something about picking 1-39 for a bonus ball so it must be a minidraw or something lol

Kaz
23-03-2011, 02:59 PM
Ah, that would be the Thunderball, pick from 1-39 amd then 1-14 for the Thunderball

Reg
23-03-2011, 03:01 PM
1 - 39 Is thunderball not bonus ball

mrs maggot
23-03-2011, 07:03 PM
lol, see i know nothing about the lottery but if you think the thunderball might be better for us as a smaller forum ?? would it work the same ??

Kaz
23-03-2011, 07:29 PM
It would be reliant on someone watching the draw to see what the first number out is.

At least with the main draw and using the bonus ball it's much easier

Reg
23-03-2011, 08:34 PM
Bonus ball would be best as it allows more members to have a go and at 10 pound a ticket would raise 490 as against 390 with thunderball. With over 600 members 49 tickets should sell easy.

Justin
23-03-2011, 10:52 PM
OK, calm down folks! lol. So we're looking at using the bonis ball, 49 numbers, randomly allocated....or choose if available?

mrs maggot
24-03-2011, 12:27 PM
Random - i think is best, might stop someone playing if their number had been taken
