I have had a look using the search engine as their used to be a lot of posts about the above but I cant find any.

ANyway, had a clear out of the workshop today and came across my brand new boxed Ricoh GX5050n . Justin and I both bought one over a year ago now for the ridiculous price of £50.
I bought it to use to dye sub but when I worked out the cost of the carts I decided to keep it as a back up.
Between then and now I never needed to get it out the box. But now, rather than have it gathering dust I want to use it for .......something.

Anyone have any opinions on what to do please?

If you don't want to use it for subli work, could you use it for chromablast instead? (not sure if you can get chromablast inks for it though)

Looked into that and the 5050n isn't supported to use chromablast.

Great bit of kit though - list it for sale, i'm sure someone could put it to work.

I thought the census of opinion used to be that the 5050 was no good because of banding issues, did \i misread?

My first 5050 (sublimation) went back for a refund, couldn't get on with it at all. I still use the cheaper bought one though but just for say to day printing, letters, kids stuff etc. Don't like it though, when this load of carts run out I'll ditch it and get a cheap inkjet in.

I see Justin, At £30 a cart I will probably use it as you say and throw it away when finished.

I've got 2 sets of carts for my 7000, which I believe will fit the 5050, £60 a set plus P&P if interested

Are they the starter carts or full carts Kaz? Wouldn't be interested myself but thank you anyway :-)

I think you may have misread - mine prints perfect with no banding issues. Its all down to how its set up, if its not installed correctly your going to get banding.
