View Full Version : Epson B1100 Stylus Printer - new A3+ printer
Hi! I wonder if any one got it yet? I know you can buy it for £175 incl. postage! so this is well good price if you compare it to other A3 epson printers.
what you think about this printer? is it worth to give it a go? well... I will :) just want to know if anybody on here is planing to upgrade to this printer.
I know there is no ciss for this model yet but you can get refillable carts for £18.99. I am planing to buy one set and make custom Icc profile with artanium inks... what u all recon?

Thinking about upgrading to A3 (again!) when i can so interested to watch this thread. Maybe the supplier would give you a discount if you gave it a good review on DSF Paul !?!? ;)
Am I right in thinking it's just a 4 colour CMYK printer but uses 2 blacks as per the D120?

yes mate! Is almost as my old D88+ :P but 1 black extra. this is not any dark black etc... normal black! so is still cmyk :) I can transfer my old ink from my cis to refilable carts. I am exited now :)

I wonder if ICC from d120 would be far off...hmmm :?:

Some profiles do seem to work with different printers...failing that you could get one custom made.
J :-)
i will. but this will cost me about 25 quid. so i would preffer try first with d120. but need to get hold of it first lol.
Having just had to spend half the day fighting a very reluctant Cyan ink to drag its carcass through my 1400's CIS, I'm looking at getting another printer in the very near future, so if Sawgrass support it they'd do well to get their finger out.
Trouble is, history has shown that they don't exactly rush with new models. I think they supported the R1800 on the eve of it being discontinued - like they were waiting for Epson to close the factory or something. :D
I'll see what I can find out from Sawgrass re new printers being supported and post back later.

It appears that this printer is in test at the moment with Sawgrass and expected to be fully supported by end of Feb/ early March next year. Epson apparently have 3 different models of this printer for different geographical regions (Europe/ America/ Asia) and each has a different firmware on the chip. Once this technical hurdle has been overcome then all that needs to be sorted out is the autoretting chips, making of the Easyflow system and profiling the printer. So a couple of months and hopefully all will be sorted out. Should prove to be a very popular printer in the sublimation industry at the price.
:) fantastic news this is :P Will buy it asap..
just found it on play.com for £171 incl. vat and delivery ;)
order placed ;) will let you know what I think when printer arrive.

Bit more techy stuff if anyone's interested. I understand this printer uses the shell of the Epson R1900 (just a different colour) and the printhead from the Epson B40W (this being a supported printer in the A4 market by Sawgrass). As a printer it should be fine but interesting how Epson recycle various parts to make "new" printers.

According to the German Epson website (surprisingly useful info there), the B1100 does use exactly the same ink cartridges as the B40W (except that the B40W also has the option of the "so light it's vapour" half-filled cartridges).
On the subject of recycling printer chassis, it's painfully obvious that the quad-black R2400, gloss pigment R1800, and consumer 1400 printers all shared the same chassis. The 1400 actually has blanking plates and bits of plastic where there are additional options for the more expensive printers - most noticeably, the roll paper. It's clear that, for the R1800, Epson just removed the R2400's thick card support and replaced it with a CD feed; and for the 1400, they took the R1800 and crippled the roll paper support (and changed the printhead).
It surprised me when they abandoned all this cost saving with the release of the R1900 - which really offered no real benefit over the R1800, but somehow required a major change to the chassis. Barmy.
As soon as Sawgrass support the B1100, I'll most likely be one of the first in the queue. That's if I can convinced myself that I'm okay with just a CMYK system.
so If I buy carts for B40W they should work with B1100 is that right?

Until someone tries it, there are no guarantees!
All I can tell you is that, if you check out the Epson Germany website, they list the same part number against the 11ml cartridges for C,M,Y, and K, for both the B40W and B1100. They could have made a mistake.
The tiny 5.5ml cartridges for the B40W are not listed against the B1100 - although that could simply be because the only person who'd put such a tiny amount of ink in an A3 printer is a turnip. :D
:D but as far I know b40w is 4 carts printer and b1100 is a 5 carts one... so hjow is that then?

We'll all find out when you see if it works!
According to Epson.co.uk, the B40W has four tanks (384 nozzles for BK, 128 nozzles per colour) while the B1100 has five tanks (360 for BK, 59 nozzles per colour). This implies that the B1100 will be slower than the B40W. More nozzles = more speed.
Maybe the B1100 just has two blacks, like some of the older printers, to speed it up? They could still be the same part number (same cartridge in each position). Who knows? Not me... ;)
ok. so what carts nombers r they? any one know? so I would buy refillable ones and check it out :)

Not necessarily. Whilst the physical printhead is the same I'm sure Epson will have different firmware in each so that you have to buy B1100 carts for this printer (the information on the chip will be different).

This is the website I've been using (they give ink capacities as well as part numbers) -
Epson B40W on Epson.de (http://www.epson-store.de/cd/ld/content/shop/consumables/offersbydevice.php/category/inkcarts/devicesku/C11CA27302)

Very similar part numbers.
There is a discrepancy on the B40W black - such as how can it support 11ml black as well as 26ml black? That doesn't make sense, so there's a very real likelihood that there are errors on the German Epson website. Double-check *everything* before you part with your cash - because you won't get no refunds from me!
thanx guys! printer ordered... refillable carts too :) just in case ordered of ebay from here. (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190352967389&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT) there is in description that it is designed for B1100 so hopfuly will be ok ;)

Hi, just bought a brand new one of these @ £135 new (plus £11.50 P&P) from jpc shp on Amazon with 24 hr delivery and while I've not used it yet as I am awaiting a CISS dye sub kit the build quality is fantastic but it takes up a lot of room. Cannot wait to get it working. Might sound a silly question but please bear with me as I am a newbie to all this, the advert said icc profile included with this printer. So where is it? Does it come on the CD for use with Photoshop etc how do I get it and how does it work? I have not previously used Icc profiles but understand they are essential in getting the colours on screen the same as the printer oputput. Any help gratefully received.
With the EasyFlow systems there is a CD which is full of pdf files - these will tell you what to do :)

Many thanks, seriously, I don't suppose Epson were going to endorse dye sub icc profiles were they :D
