Might be an obvious answer to this...I hope! but I thought I'd ask on here to try and speed things up a bit.

My 1400 seems to be printing to one side, tried different software and it keeps doing it:frown:

Looks fine on screen, tried fit to page and other things but nothing helps.

Anyone got a quick and easy solution to this please!?!?!

It was probably set to print letter by default

No-one and ideas here? Need to get an A3 printed tonight and just can't work this one out. Tried printing from a different PC, new driver etc. but still prints to the side so it must be something to do with the printer itself surely?

Is it set to US Letter A3, i.e. 11 inch x 17 inch rather than International A3 of 297mm x 420mm?

Nope, everything's as it usually is...A3 297x420 etc. I have the settings all saved as default. Installed on the other PC with basic settings just to check.

I'd suspect the driver, personally. How did it fare on the other PC?

Just out of curiosity, have you tried building a custom A3 size in Print Server Properties and seeing what happens when using that size?

Hi Justin, You could try support or even emailing them - its bound to be something simple.

Love the optimism! :)

Pretty sure it is something simple, I'd hoped a driver issue but connecting to another PC seems to have ruled that out. Probably a 'simply' knackered printer! lol. Emailed Epson UK so fingers crossed they've seen this before.

Installed the driver from the same source disc or download? I'm clutching at straws on that one, but it's always worth checking. Otherwise it probably is the printer - in which case, I'd clutch at even longer straws and suggest a firmware update (which I'm not even sure is possible on the 1400, as far as the end user goes).

Apologies if everything I've just said is a load of old twoddle. I didn't sleep well last night...

Epson have responded, basically saying if I've done everything they suggest then the printer needs a service. £155 for the service! lol. They have also offered me discounted printers if I trade the 1400 in. I've been thinking about getting a B1100 so will look into this/or get another 1400 I reckon.

Appreciate everyone's input on this :-)

Ian, I will check for firmware updates etc. May as well try anything!

How old is the printer? Can't you take it back to the retailer and get them to sort it? Your contract is with the retailer, not with Epson. Epson aren't obliged to fix your printer, but the retailer may be.

It depends how old the printer is. Check your rights under the Sale of Goods Act.

Bought second hand, out of warranty.

Ah, that's a problem.

Epson's £155 charge is, I think, a standard call out charge. I believe it covers labour and things. I contacted them once when I had a laser printer problem and, after they'd done everything they could (they cleaned up the sensors for free), I was told that the only remaining option was a £140 call out to fix it.

Given that your printer is a 1400 that costs around £300, then paying £155 to get it fixed might be a better option that paying the same for a lesser printer.

In my case, my printer had been replaced by a £200 model capable of producing better quality so, taking into account the included toner, it made sense to chuck the old one and buy the new one.

We live in a strange world when, on the one hand, we're being told that we must be kind to the planet but, on the other, printers have become throwaway items. It's silly.
