I must admit that using rhinestones confuse me, so if this is full of errors then please put me right. From my very limited understanding these are heat pressable mini gems that are used to embellish items. Now it is the template that confuses me. Are these like stencils? e.g. are they full of small holes that you place on top of an item then drop the rhinestones in place and press? If so would the templates just be card of some type?

At this point I really do not understand where flock or vinyl comes in but assume that maybe somehow you stick the rhinestones to a carrier and then press and peel?

So now that I have hijacked the thread can someone give me a quick answer?

Well, I will have to visit youtube later when I get home but I think i would use my plotter to cut small holes out of thin card and just drop stones in the holes and press that way then lift off the stencil and keep for next time. I would consider flex to be too expensive unless i was going to have the rhinestones on top of the flex on my shirt etc. Perhaps things will become clearer after I get home.

Links are fine. Pick any color of sign binyl and some pro flock. You cant use cart WDR. Carier wil not lift of the card.. Heat press flock to vinyl and off you go :-) is cheap if you use flock as you will always have some wastage.

It's not possible to place rhinestones on top of vinyl, there is nothing for the glue to grab onto. You would need to cut holes in the vinyl so they make direct contact with the garment.

OK, so after looking on youtube I am about 50% there in understanding. So here goes my current understanding. You buy some ordinary sign vinyl and you heat press onto the vinyl surface a piece of tee-shirt flock. So at this point you have the from bottom to top layer vinyl backing, vinyl, flock (and i imagine flock clear front protective layer which you pull off). You then place this composite (maybe on another backing sheet) into your cutter and cut your stencil image out by cutting through the flock layer?. You then weed this flock layer to end up with a piece of flock with holes in that will stick with the sign vinyl layer backing sheet removed onto another backing. You then fill the holes with rhinestones and using mylar tape transfer the rhinestones from the flock template to the mylar tape and then ultimately you press this tape/rhinestone combo to your item.

Well I have ordered some 32cm wide Mylar tape, about to buy a sample of rhinestones and I already have sign vinyl in stock so just need some flock. Now is flock the slightly 'furry' feeling material that I remember from my childhood t-shirts. I think back in 1976 it might have been the only heat press lettering available - well it always seemed that way at Butlins.

I am sure I cannot be the only member that is confused by the whole rhinestone process however have had good fun making template designs inside corel draw to cut later so like bigj2552 I need to buy some shirts.

ordered some ss10's in like 6 colours to start with, on ebay.....

went to look at order, seller will be "away" for a while ..there might be a deley in getting your order processed ..could she/they/him/it not bloody well say that BEFORE i ordered ....looking at around 7-10days....

thought bugger that....went and sourced out another seller on ebay, checked delivery details...2-3 days, and ordered the same again plus some ss16's & ss4's.....the other ones will not go to waste....

as for the "furry" feeling.....i just got some flock cameo sheets from BMS through today....Hmm, mine dont feel "furry"...just kinda heavy dull matt vinyl....and no, its not the nylo flex i,m feeling....def is flock.....

ah hell.....i wanted the "furry" feeling every other person is getting :frown:....off to sit in corner and suck my thumb .....most exciting thing i done all day lol.....

Well I just ordered 14400 s10 clear hot fix rhinestones from Hong Kong. To practice with that should be enough for a t-shirt or two lol

Also think this is a good deal on the mylar paper if anyone needs some at the moment. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Diamante-Rhinestone-Heat-Transfer-Mylar-Tape-1m-x-32cm-SPECIAL-OFFER-/221047118587?pt=UK_Crafts_Beads_CA&hash=item33776f5afb

It is 1m lengths 32cm wide for 99p (+99p shipping on first item then 25p on rest) so to get 10m it cost me just over £13 which is I think a bargain.

The velvet feel is face down on the clear backing sheet. If you pull back the corner you'll reveal the flock.
