there is a leser transfere technology, CPM by the magic touch etc, - but it is not as good, more prone to failure, doesn't wash as well, isn't as nice, AND - you need a compatable laser printer.

If it's for only very tiny quantities and for hobbyist/craft purposes, you can use water slide decals through a regular printer. A bit fiddly, but it's do-able.

Correct, but the OP wasn't asking for a robust/washable/dishwasher-safe/made-in-a-nut-free-factory/untouched-by-Martians printing method.

The question asked was "Is there any way to do mugs without sublimation ink?", and that's the question I answered.

Great answer by the way, cheered my day up no end.

Screen printing is an alternative but sublimation is the most economical way to do small orders, one offs etc.
