Hi all,
have a 5 in1 press and have been making t shits for awhile now, but someone gave me an epson SX235W with a set of dye sublimation inks and I decided to try the mug press out.
I am printing from photoshop or silhouette to the epsom, with it set to best photo and photo paper, but when I put the mug in the press and follow the instruction sheet a blank mug comes out. I have checked I am printing on the correct side of the sublimation paper, but just can't work out what I am doing wrong. Any ideas.

are you absolutely sure that the inks in the printer are dye sublimation inks, and not just dye inks?
Also, is the mug you are using a sublimation mug, or just a standard mug?

The mugs came from BMS, and the inks are CISS/S22 Dye according to the box

checked order code on box and with previous owner, who said ha couldn:t get it to work which is why I got it. Have now contacted original supplier of ink and got the right ink for mug printing, so should be okay soon.
Thanks for the help

I did the blank mug thing once (accidentally had normal paper in the printer)

Excitedly peeled back the paper off the mug and...TAADAAAAA!.... nothing  lol.

Well that is quite surprising as I have used normal paper before (just to see if sublimation paper was really something special) and always got some image even if a little faded.

I have the right ink and it is working okay now. Setting printer to best photo quality and photo paper (can't find epsom vivid on mine), have the press at 180 for 120 seconds, but although the image comes out, in places there are stripes instead of full clear colour. Could this mean more time, more heat or should I change to one of the epsom glossy settings?

you should check your nozzle test :)

Nozzle check print out looked fine, but I may do a print head clean anyway to see if it improves the situation.

I'm by no stretch of the imagination an 'expert' so take this with a degree of doubt but that looks like a heat mat problem to me......maybe you're clamping the mug too tight?

Thank you for that, I will check the tension and try again

I wonder if you should not try a standard plain paper setting also if none of the above suggestions help. Those white lines can be a product in the past of the following: damp paper or wet ink (let transfer dry a while especially if using a high quality setting), uneven pressure around the mug, not long enough in the press (try 180 for 180), maybe printer banding.

Anyway I hope you fix it soon.

Nozzle checked, print head cleaned, pressed lowered slightly, time increased and it is all working really well.

Paper would be TruPix in the PowerDriver software - which you need to download and install from http://www.sawgrasseurope.com/techni...s-icc-profiles (http://www.sawgrasseurope.com/technical-support/sublijet-r/power-drivers-icc-profiles)
