I have a number of mug templates but need something generic that would work with anything I get sent, usually school type photos so I guess one male and one female template.

Looking at creating a few of my own with backdrops etc. but wondering if anyone uses the same templates on their mugs for such designs?

How do you know what size your template needs to be to ensure it fits onto/around the mug before heat pressing?

Sorry i meant to say when creating a photo for the mug, before printing how do you adjust the size of photo to know it will fit the mug before printing?

you can resize/adjust your photo to your needs in photoshop.

Well most 10/11oz mugs are happy to accomodate an image of between 80 and 90mm tall and 190 to 220mm wide. So as long as your image fits within these limits it should be fine - if not then you need to resize to do so. Even free software like Irfanview can resize an image, however best way is to create a layout in software of the maximum workspace on your mug e.g. 80 x 190 or 90 x 220 mm and then you drop your images inside this layout as resize to fit.

I've done a few school photo mugs in the past for one of my photographer customers. We've always just put the same photo of each kid on either side of the mug & everyone has seemed more than happy with the results.

We did toy with the idea of having the school logo opposite the handle but, none of the schools were interested.
