Hi

I am soon to be ordering a 28inch liyu plotter cutter, a friend who has his own roof thatching business has asked for a waterproof banner with simple bold text in yellow on a red banner approx 2m X 0.75m big is the liyu suitable for cutting the text for this size banner, is the pressed item going to be waterproof and what should i charge for this as it will be the first one i do and aslo need to request a deposit for the cost of the vinyl etc.

you dont press this vinyl. you apply it with transfer tape...
I recomend you to pop in on youtube and type sign vinyl application.

Your 28 cutter will cut, - uopto 28cm letters ( or maybe 27 ?)
27/28cm high letters are quite big, - If you get 2 lines of text on the banner it will look good.
As mentioned above, signmaking, same kit, different media!

The 28" cutter will cut letters with up to a maximum width of 28" and the corresponding height. So I would think no issues for that banner.

my next question is how much would one charge for such a request?

Well pricing is always an issue, I read once albeit on an American site that they suggested you charged 50c per 1" of letter height per letter. So if you said 30p per 1" of letter height and work out what each letter would cost then add the backing vinyl cost on top.

Firstly make sure you use the correct vinyl for the lettering. Normal vinyl will crinkle and loose it's adhesion around the edges becoming tatty quite quickly. There is a specific vinyl for doing banners....

Pricing depends on how much profit you're looking for but (possibly) as a guide for full colour printed banners £15.00 per mtr does it for me.

The banner will be approx 2m in length red backing with yellow text so you would do the whole thing for 30?

If I was printing then yes around £30 would do it although it would need running through the software to assess the ink usage to confirm the price.

If you need to buy in just to do this job then IMO it's not going to be worth it. I only said what I could do it for printed as I don't have the materials costing to estimate for using vinyl lettering. However I would imagine it would be in the same ballpark.
