Hi there - we just got an optical eye today and now need to install the thing on to the liyu sc631 - are there any videos or manuals to show exactly where the thing is supposed to go and where the wires need to be soldered, how to get to the part in question - any help would be appreciated - should have just bought the one with the optical eye in the first place but there's nothing like a challenge hey!

many thanks in advance

When you say an optical eye.....is it just a red led by any chance?

no it is a laser with one red and one black wire attached and a seperate chip which i think needs to replace one that is already on the board in the cutter

Uhm, mine had the red led with 2 wires....and a little circuit board, but its an led, you must have a proper one then! Not the same model so it is possible. Did it have one before and you're just replacing it?

Watch Pauls video on contour cutting without an optical eye. And yes, it does sound like you've been sold the red led we all have on our Chinese cutters :-(

Justin, When you say LED do you mean simple red light coming out of the LED? Coz in my cutter is proper laser beam. is useless but still... its a laser :P

they are quite clear on what the "eye" will and wont do, but i think some re-sellers just add their own definitions

The Optical eye is a laser pointing device for Contour Cutting. It is supported by software such as SignCut Pro and Flexi-Starter.

Its a shame as it seems to catch a lot of people out, but to sell it as an add on is really taking the mickey

... and always add to the price big time!!! i have seen £20-£50 difference of same cutter with and without this pointer. marketing genius. £50 for something that does nothing :)

Poundworld and some other £ shops have laser guided scissors. When stripped these contain a small red laser pointer and a beam splitter. Remove the beam splitter (a small lens) and you are left with a 1cm long laser module with a red and black wire - this runs off 3 little coin cells in the scissors. The output is sharp and bright.

I imagine this would be usable - locate a 5v supply from the PSU, stick a small resistor in line with the red wire and glue the laser module on. Put a switch somewhere to turn it on and off.
One brand of "laserpoint " type cutter I tested had something similar glued into the head shell, though I think it was a bright red LED in a barrel.
