View Full Version : Laser transfer light
We had a play with some laser transfer light from Xpres the other day but found that around the image that is transferred the paper left a very noticable wax residue.
Is there a paper out there which doesnt suffer this problem as contour cutting them is not practical considering the restrictions with the Camm1 cutter and the size it works to in contour mode (half the sheet is wasted as usable area is tiny).
So, any papers which dont leave residue?

They all do for laser. The best I have found is TMT's 3.1 which leaves a minimal amount. There is a new paper that Target Transfers sell that claims to leave no residue at all. However I have heard that the durability of that particular paper is not great.
You may find playing around with the temp and time does improve the reduction of residue marks.
you could also try cutting around the image roughly with a scalpal depending on how many you have to do.
Well we dont really do printed transfers as its not our line of work, but an oppertunity has arisen so we thought we would have a play but the results are disappointing with the residue.
I'll try some of the TMT paper first and see what the output is like.

The two step papers like Image Clip (http://www.yolo.co.uk/image-clip-laser-light-99-p.asp) don't leave any border, not sure how durable they are.

the outline effect for laser white transferes vary significantly by brand of garments, think it is something to do with the bleaching process used on the cotton.
TMT ttc 3.1 and Forever classic are both good
I dont see how the garment would have a significant effect as its caused by the wax base of the paper being left as a residue, the only way this changes on different garments is the visual effect with the weave of the fabric.

there can be significant variation in the visibility of the clear background for both TMT 3.1 and forever classic; in most casaes it is invisible, but for some fabrics there is a clear background !
In my experience, these 2 laser products give me the best results.

hi all, ive just started using TMT 3.1 with my OKI LASER PRINTER, ive found it very good on white t-shirts but was wondering what it was like on other colors, what colours can and cant it work on? also does anyone cut out the image or text with a cutter? is this possible i have a silhouette cameo so was wondering if i can trace and cut just like vinyl and if so does anyone else do it and whats your opinions?
Dave
It will work on any pastel or pale colour garment.
We have considered contour cutting with our Camm-1 but it won't do a full a4 contour cut for some reason!

we scissor trim.
products like ttc 3.1 can leave an outline on some T's more than others, printing on light grey, yellow, light pink etc, soimetimes perfect, sometimes a distinct outline and darken the apparent colour of the top.
Cannot give you a rule, just experiment.
Top tip,
do a small test print INSIDE the garment first, perhaps an offcut from a corner to see the result without commiting!
