That does surprise me with poly boxes I must admit. How are you sealing them, just with tape, or are you putting them in a card outer also?

As I've said before, if the demand is there we would stock the poly boxes too - as it is currently there doesn't appear to be much demand. This could be of course because the suppliers already distributing the poly boxes are doing a good job & people aren't looking elsewhere.

We tend to play this game, too, usually in the garden. Had to do it when first sending china mugs out in the Listawood poly boxes (they're a different shape to the BMS ones, so they fit china mugs).

I had some boxes made up for shipping 8" plates (which are more prone to breakages than mugs are). The first one we got, I put the plate in it without any additional packaging and we played frisbee around the garden. The logic was that if it survived us "accidentally" failing to catch it, then it'd survive the postie! :biggrin:

Around the same time, I had some of the same boxes made up for El Grande mugs (which are a pig to pack because no one sells boxes for non-standard mugs). Very surprised how well it survived given how heavy they are.

We did the same thing with a cardboard mug box from Listawood (I don't think they sell these ones now). It survived the casual drop, but not a throw! Made a satisfying "smash" sound, though. :biggrin:

I've no problem with that, as I said.

It's good that we have so many choices when it comes to packing/shipping regular size mugs. The unfortunate thing is that the only boxes that are generally available are just those that sell in high quantities - for "regular size" mugs. If only there were boxes available for other items, both other size mugs and other fragile items that need protection in the post.

Plenty of choices for one item, no choices for all the others. Way of the world, I guess. :cool:

my mugs are also placed in bags for posting so they are dont come apart. Not sure why it suprises you that they dont break. Ive never used the cardboard smash proof boxs im sure they are every bit as good as the poly boxs

If anybody wants to buy the Subli boxes in smaller quantites we are happy to sell some off in 10's at cost price plus postage. We got a box the other week and the customer we potentially got them for decided not to pursue. We don't do much mail order so unless something dramatic changes we will take about 100 years to use them :)

Surprises me because we had at least some breakages with every other packaging method we used prior to the smashproof boxes. I'm not talking every day, but they happened & it's a pain when it does - and it's not happened since we switched to the smashproof boxes. Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against poly boxes, and we'd supply them also if the demand was there, personally though we would never switch away from smashproof boxes when it comes to sending out personalised mugs. The other biggest benefit of the smashproof boxes is storage space, I know for some people space isn't an issue but it is for many small printing businesses.

Are the smashproof boxes available for any other size of mugs?

I ran out of El Grande boxes recently. These are a real pain to pack unless you have boxes for them. For the last couple of orders, I've been modifying polystyrene boxes (just need to cut out space for the handle and then add additional cushioning where the poly is now missing - all a bit "Heath Robinson", but it works!). They don't fit in smashproof boxes, so it was lucky I had the poly boxes here.

Before I order in some new El Grande boxes, I thought I'd ask if there was a proper box available for them. Any chance?

We only sell the one size, we could ask our supplier to make a larger size if the demand is there, but we need to pay to have the form made & the set up etc, and then we have to order 12,000 at a time to achieve the price we've achieved, so given that the demand for larger boxes is probably not going to be high enough to warrant such a quantity, the price would probably be too expensive. It may be, for instance, that the cost would be double that of the 10 oz smashproof boxes, and I'm not sure that anyone would want them at this price.

Thanks for your reply. I think you're right in that the demand wouldn't be high enough, and the price would be a problem. I currently have mine custom-made and, while they do cost around 70p each, I only need to order in quantities of 25 at a time if business is slow.
