What Printer Profile Should I Use

Hi, After posting a few posts here on the forum and going through some great help from more experienced members, I have printed a number of mugs that are easily sell-able. I have had some difficulties printing the colour red, Seems to be pink or purple...

One member has told me to print via the Richo printer not the PowerDriver.
Whilst printing via the Richo driver I have been told to the ICC Profile, But I am not sure what profile I should be selecting from the drop down list of available printer profiles?

Can someone point me in the right direction please.

Have you downloaded the separate profile? This is a different download to the Powerdriver.

If you're using Sawgrass' inks then you need the ICC profile from them.
All PowerDriver does is handle managing colours and printing with the appropriate ICC profile.
If you do it that way, then Photoshop is effectively blind from what your printer is doing, and so you can't soft proof,along with all the expensive and most likely patented software in Photoshop used in printer and colour management is thrown away and replaced by PowerDriver. If you've paid for Photoshop, then it seems silly to cripple a chunk of its functionality.

Power driver is excellent with Coraldraw, but as Pisquee points out restricts the benefits of Photoshop.

I had this same problem with my ricoh.
I must officially say it.... ICC for rjet ARE CRAP!!!! :)
reds are dirty pink, blues are wrong too!
I tried to get use to them but nope... I couldn't do that. no matter what i print it was useless (anything with red. other colours was ok ish)

Funny bit is that even a guy i know, who is a dustman and i thought he wouldn't care less, noticed wrong colours straight away :/


custom icc fixed the issue and i am printing descent now.

I managed to secure good contract with football club to print they official merchandise and it has LOADS of red :) they wouldn't be to happy with original jet icc profile :)

Hi Paul, If you could point me in the direction of where I could sauce a custom ICC profile that would be fantastic.
Im a using Photoshop CS6 / SubliJet-R Ink / Richo SG 3100DN / 3D Mini Sub oven machine.

Just hope this ICC profile helps me print via photoshop to my mugs print the expected colour in the 3d mini sub machine.

I've heard and read good results from his ICC, that's why I getting mine via Paul.

Are you using the mini 3d sub machine to print your mugs ?

No sorry. Just a normal mug press.

I am very new to mug printing and have tried icc profiles and Powerdriver. I use Corel Draw X6 for sublimation and use SWOP in the colour management setting and also use the Power driver with the Ricoh printer. The results I get are stunning with the printed mugs being virtually identical to the monitor display.

You're using SWOP, (which is a CMYK profile) in Corel , and then sending it to PowerDriver, and then onto the Ricoh?!
Essentially you're using two ICC profiles, the first CMYK and not a printer profile at all, and then an RGB printer profile within Power Driver?
I very much doubt that this actually produces accurate results, and if it does it is either luck or co-incidence, and wouldn't be something to recommend as the "right" way of doing things.

Guess I must be lucky then as I use Corel for generating all work to be printed out, large format or litho of which I do quite alot so I can gauge if final printed result matches onscreen display. I use Corel's colour management for all of this, I may change the profile depending on what the output company say. Generally I use the cmyk colour model if it is to be outout as a cmyk job as this generally will pass through the RIP or at least be in the right colour model for import if they use another programme for batching.
Mugs are quite different though as I design in RGB and I am using the SWOP profile (as suggested by Sawgrass) in the CM to allow Draw to display how it will print/should print, I will assume that the Powerdriver then does the RGB to CMYK conversion for the Ricoh. Any how the results are spot on ie print to display wise so I will relish my good fortune and I'm off to buy a lottery ticket before my luck runs out :)
