Hi,
I am currently trying to a price up an enquiry for 20 mugs from a large company.
I have only been selling in ones and two's previously to the public, but hopefully this may be the helping hand i need if i can get the contract without scaring them off with a daft price.
Can anyone give me any advice on pricing please ?

Is it a one off order of 20 or will they be coming back for more every couple of months? If it is a one off order then I would work out what 20 x your normal price is and see if you think that is to much. I was asked to provide 70 mugs for an office block near me as they were giving them out as xmas presents to their occupants. I went as low as I could and even offered to deliver them for free, well they are only 10 mins away,but they decided to go to Ebay for £3.99 each. They got them this week and 10 were broken!!!! So if you can justify your price with good quality, being a local business then they should go for it.
Sounds like one of my orders, get lowest price for 20 mugs because we'll soon be buying 100 a month....and they order one or two here and there and expect the lowest price ;-)
With my regular customers I now invoice at the end of the month, sure I have to wait for my money but if needs be I can price on quantity ordered. If your customer orders 20 you do it at one price, if they go above, say 72 you do it at a lower price.
I have £3.50 box rate. To much or not enough?
Im happy with it. But didn't had to many customers for full box just yet I must admit :cool:

£3.50 (ex delivery and VAT) for our mugs wholesale (subject to MOQ), for an RRP of £10 from our stockists, or £12.50 delivered from the website

thanks for all the feedback.
The company in question sponsor my boys football team and when we had the team photo done i put the photo onto a few mugs.
Cut a long story short the assistant manager has got a good job there and took one into work to show them, nxt thing he got in touch to say they wanted 10 doing with the photo and their logo on so they could put them in their magazines etc..
I've done them twenty , four different samples so they can hopefully choose which they prefer ( All four hopefully,lol ).
I've woke up to all this feedback this morning and had already decided on charging £4 per mug, so it sounds like i'm not too far away. Postage will be free too as i'll just pass them onto the assistant manager.
Totally agree with Justin & Alan on that i didn't want to go lower than £3.50 each per box.
I'll keep you up to date if they order more.

Remember one thing Jason, if in the future your earnings mean you become VAT registered you'll need to absorb that cost. £4/4.20 seems pretty bang on the money.

Thought i'd chip in with advice from some hard lessons learned when starting out
* Make sure you cover costs if replacements are needed including postage and the pick up collection of supposed 'substandard' mugs
* Make sure Samples are identical, one for you and for customer and photograph the customers sample
* VERY IMPORTANT *****Clearly state your T&Cs with quote/proforma*****
* Do not spend the money received before customer receives their order and is happy, Especially on large orders, You really do not want to be up the 'creek' if they requests a full refund and you have spent the dough
* Check and double check every order before packaging it.
Finally realise sometimes that there is no pleasing a customer. Regardless. Take the hit, Learn and move on.

Scotty makes a good point regarding VAT. A large percentage on ebay (and those generally selling cheap) it seems are not VAT registered once you are you either have to increase your selling price (if including the VAT) or take a hit with your profit. VAT puts a different slant on things when pricing jobs. If you're selling to business it may not matter much if they are VAT registered - sell to Joe public and you're more expensive than many. I'm certainly finding that now.
