FADED washed out looking print at base of mugs, HELP!

Hi everyone!

I have been printing mugs for over 2 years now for my own small business and also for a photography company.
I am using Rioch gel printer with sublimation dye cartridges, European coated mugs from BMS and their sublimation paper.
I press at 180 degrees for 180 seconds.
I haven't had any problems until now.
all of a sudden my prints are coming out really washed out at the base and the edges nearest the mug handle, it's not the kind of thing that happens when you press for too long, it's like the ink never stuck to the mug in the first place.

please help,this is driving me CRAZY and I've wasted about 20 mugs!

TRY and move the mug up an inch in the press and press for another 10 seconds

If you've been printing mugs on the same press for over 2 years, the blanket is probably getting worn out. My old mug press prints faded towards the bottom and near the handles. The older it gets, the larger the faded area.

You can try increasing the time/temp to compensate but you risk the "good" area blurring through over-pressing. Might be worth trying, though, just to see if it helps.

hi m8 is exact problem i have at moment except mine is at bottom /top and both sides (only in the middle do i get a decent print)

is the heating element/blanket not giving enough heat in that area
if u do text in middle in cup all fine but a square image edge to edge is when u notice it.

mine is starting to go like that :(
i have tried moving the mug up but it didn't do much good as it's near the handle mine is esp bad
looks like i'm going to have to give henry a shout and get a new blanket at some point soon :(

how many cups u done,as an example with current press before u needed new blanket and what press have u got ???

When printing mug after 1,5minutes open the press and flip your mug over. Them press afor another 1,5 - 2 minutes. This should help before you get new blanket. Also you can increse presure a little.

my press is at full pressure as it is as i use 10oz mugs
i've also tried swapping it round etc done all the usual stuff :)

the blanket is only 1 year old but it did come from a not very good supplier shall we say ;)
and for the 1st 6 months i didn't use a warm up scrap mug in it either

whats the tip with the scrap mug while warming up as never knew about this.

Do you put the mug in when the press is at 180 degrees? If so the temp will drop and then the press will warm up again, so the mug won't be at the 180 degrees for the full 3 minutes. I'd considering increasing the time by at least 30 seconds to see if that will help get the ink in these parts whilst you consider the need for a new mug blanket.

I had exactly the same problem the other day & realised that the blanket was on its way out. I did get over it to finish the mugs I was printing by increasing the temp & the time. I fitted a new blanket which arrived today & it is now just like new. The new blanket for my press was just under £25 & is a lot cheaper than a new machine which in effect it is now.

Thank you so much everyone for your help, I have tried turning the mug half way through cooking and increasing the time an extra 30 seconds with good results. Ian M, where did you find a new blanket for that price? I think I'll be getting one soon! :redface:

Paula, I got my new blanket from Coralgraph. You need to check which mug press you have as I was lucky in that Coralgraph sell a mug press that is the same as mine.
