Does anyone have any experience with entry level / hobbyist laser engravers?
I'm liking the look of the engraved tumblers so I'm presuming I would need a rotary attachment

I've used various different manufacturers inks in various different printers (non sublimation) over the years and grey is always problematic.
Even a 99% black becomes a composite color meaning it...
I don't know if it's a BN20 thing but it might be worth speaking to the likes of Amari Plastics or the like to see if they have profiles for 3M, Oracle or Avery etc
It does take a bit of practice but can be done accurately
Once you've aligned the vinyl on top of the substrate accurately use enough tape to secure it to the bench on one half then use light...
Profiles are mega important for printing on vinyl
Are you using the correct one for the brand of vinyl you are using?
(I'm assuming you can add profiles for the BN20 through Versaworks - if so...

Are you 100% sure gimp is actually saving the profile - I don't know gimp but can you open the image in another document and check that the profile has been saved and applied?
Are your inks in date?
I'm just trying to be helpful for the sake of it now without a proper understanding of the problem lol
Does this statement mean anything to you....

Is the ink splatter on your nozzle test sheets as well?
It sounds to me like there is a lump of debri/fluff stuck somewhere collecting ink and dropping it randomly
If it was the print head...
Good luck
A call to the likes of Amari or Pyramid should point you in the right direction for alternatives
I've just found this which gives a bit of a detailed spec (never used them though)
It does state UV, screen or litho though so might not be suitable

Used to use it on a flatbed UV so I'm not sure if it will go through a roll feed printer or not
Various applications but we used it primarily for double sided door hangers for some of the larger...

The results for the most...
I sort of convinced myself that because I was getting perfect coverage across the rest of the mug (including the top) that it might not be a coating issue and that maybe a higher temperature press...
I've had mixed results with the MDP Orca 11oz but I'm brand new to this and wasn't sure if it was me just finding my way with them
I was trying to print top to bottom black and was getting patchy...
I would try converting the text to curves
I've had experience of some fonts acting weirdly when converted to PDFs
Not sure if it's a truetype/open face issue
