    CE Certification ...

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience of obtaining CE Certification for products they have manufactured themselves?

Have you 'self-assessed' or paid an agency to do the legwork?

I have developed a product for sale which could be regarded as a 'Toy' under the regulations as it will be used by children under the age of 14, so need to know how to go about getting CE registration (with regards to the product and its packaging) and applying CE marking to the product/packaging.

Any help would be appreciated as reading through all these EU regulations is doing my head in!

Your local trading Standards office should be able to help :) From what I can recall, CE is self certification but the last time I researched any of this was 30 years ago. However, trading standards were a great resource...

Cheers Ali P. I'm waiting for a reply from my local Trading Standards, I'll keep this thread updated as things proceed in case it's of use to anyone else.

Still no reply from TS yet.

Anyway, when looking through the CE Certification blurb for 'Toys' I came across this interesting snippet:

Puzzles of 500 pieces or more are exempted from the regulations.

Now I know members in here produce dyesubbed jigsaws for sale with far less than 500 pieces and was just wondering how many have obeyed the Law and had their puzzles CE Certified?

In fact, are the puzzles from the suppliers even CE certified?

    Yeah China Exported lol.

My local trading standards wasn't the best at helping with CE. Someone who had similar experiences recommended going to the neighbouring council for advice.

    Haha!

Have you had to do any CE Certification then Gary?

It seems to me that they've compiled all these crazy, confusing rules, then tell you that you can 'self-assess' (WTF?) but, if you get it wrong you can be heavily fined and/or prosecuted and have all your stock withdrawn from the entire EU!!!

No wonder so many people sell illegally when it's so bloody difficult to understand a word of the required regulations.

I had thought about selling a baby product and contacted Trading Standards to get the info, but then backed out without going any further. Wasn't worth the risk (choking hazard) even if I did get accredited.

    Hello,
I'm new here and wondered if I could ask a quick question.....

Re the CE discussion above, does this apply for selling sublimated baby bibs/bodysuits? Is it okay to sell them if you have purchased babysafe blanks and ink?
Does anybody know of any babysafe sub ink? The ink I have purchased is safe for babies and children, however they do not have the certification for under 6 month olds as it costs £8000 a year apparently!
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have a LOT of blank baby bodysuits/bibs and rompers but have literally just found out that my ink may not be suitable now!

Thanks in advance. I look forward to any replies.

    Sarah :-)

Any polyester bib from Primark or wherever will be fine. The ink can't be sucked off by a baby, it bonds with the polyester.

    Hi Gary,
I have loads of blank baby clothing from a great supplier.
Re the ink, I know how sublimation works and that it wont come off but from a legal point of view do you know if there is any legal requirement to show this?
Do you know of any ink companies that will guarantee that it's safe for babies?
Do you sell sublimated baby bibs/bodysuits?
