when changing cartridges, the yellow and magenta ones do not want to stay in place they seem to be being pushed back out, any ideas?

I had this on one of my Ricoh's once.
What I did was get some paper and fold it over several times then wedged it between two carts. I did this between all three gaps so that all four carts were set firmly and did not move.
I have no idea if there was/is a "proper" fix, but the above worked for me.

thanks for that, it works, but I'm not sure if the printer I have is suitable for mugs, its a Ricoh 2110, the colours seem to be all over the place any thoughts
Without knowing your complete set up it is difficult to give you any solid opinion, however the following is a good base...
The 2110 is not a great printer, ideally you need the 3110
You need to source your inks from a reputable supplier. If you are a novice then I recommend Sawgrass or Sublisplash, however most people ignore that advice as they want cheap
You need to install a colour profile set up for whatever ink and paper you are using. Sawgrass provide this for you, others might.

I use both SG 2100 and SG 3110 both print perfectly. I believe the latter has a duplex facility and that is the only difference.
