Look what happens when I am bored... :-)

Decided to have a bit of a play.

This mug was printed in one process in an oven for 8 minutes. Additional time taken to prepare mug (ie. cutting and wrapping) was about 2 minutes which if I decided to do as a bulk option I could probably get down to about 1.5 minutes. Possibly quicker if I got a dedicated cutter of some sort.

Additional cost on top of the normal mug cost is about 15-20p

Not really one for bulk suppliers but if you are on something like Etsy...

Using Listawood mugs as they have always been the best performer (for me) in my ovens. The little bit of blurring is where I should make the cut out slightly bigger

P.S. If you are wondering... Peanut is my daughter's nickname and she loves her Pandas :-)

Yes, but also used shrink wrap film to hold the print in place. You need to do more than just tape otherwise there is not enough pressure to get a crisp image

Looks excellent Simon! Was it tricky getting the paper cut around the handle? is this using the wrap you mentioned at the show?

    Hi Justin

No, I cut the "holes" out by hand. Although if I were to offer this out I would probably either make them slightly larger to make it quicker to trim, or get a cameo (or similar) and set that up to cut them out by machine. Cutting by hand is not a massive issue if you are doing one's and two's, if you are bulk like me then it is. I suppose it's down to how much extra you can charge for this mug. If you are going to get an additional £1-2 then trimming by hand is not an issue as you make the money on the price.

Yes, it is the stuff I mentioned. Takes a lot to get me excited in Dye Sub these days, but I think it is a really neat product that is upping the stakes to another level.

I have only just started experimenting with it and am already getting great results.

Interested to hear more about the wrap system, PM if you prefer. I like the idea of doing this and agree, not much excites me in Dye Sub nowadays so this is a cracking little breakthrough :-)

I will email you mate, although it means you will have to come over to the dark side of owning an oven...

Haha, jason tells me he's made the transition and is very impressed. I need to up my mug sales to justify it really but I'd very much like to do this.

I prefer to say "Jason listened to his superior"

I sort of see where you are coming from regarding mug sales, but on the other hand don't. I personally think the investment in an oven is about the same as investment in a mug press. Particularly when you factor in the fact that you will no longer need to replace blankets and you will not need a range of different blankets for different cylindrical items etc. etc.

Running cost is probably higher, but all you do is hold off until you have a few to do. or increase your sales...!
