Pop! Adkins Studio mug press dead

As it says. One of the presses went pop and went out.
Light by switch comes on, but no digital display. Change the blanket...no difference. Sniff around it hmmm, pop out the digital display and sniff, electrical burnt smell from the board but nothing obvious visible. Is it beyond rescue?

Sounds like the control board has blown from inside the press itself, not heard of that before.

Sounds like you might be out of warranty on it but give Cherie at Adkins an e-mail to see if they can give you a quote on replacing it, her e-mail is coh@aadkins.com

Might not be as expensive as you think to replace, part, hours work and return postage plus VAT more than likely.

Hope you get it fixed, mate.

Interesting to hear how much this is. Only spare I ever priced up with Adkins was a timer display for a Beta Max press and this was around £100.

    Hi Justin.
I have just spoken to Adkins, £100.12 + £12 delivery plus VAT, and in stock.

I need an account first though, so I have just filled in the online form.

Could have been something as simple as a blown capacitor or an scr. Have you any electronics friends that could simply locate and replace the damaged component(s)? You could then keep it as a spare board in case this ever happens again.

Hmm not that I am aware of, but I shall ask around. Mechanical things are more my strength, electrical things are a mystery, and computers....well they are just magic boxes of unicorn farts, or something like that!

Agree, if it went with a pop it could well just be a capacitor. You can soon check on the board, capacitors open up on the top when they blow so even if it's not gone black it should be clearly visible.

I can recognize a capacitor...alas nothing obvious with a blown top. Good suggestion though. I may have to investigate electrical diagnostic skills. Might need to ask the government for an extra day a week to fit the extra things I want to do in!

Sometimes the change is subtle, the top splits into 3 sections, it can just look a little bulged or may be seeping a little.

Haha, get me some of those extra days whilst you're there!
