Newbie - Type of Vinyl Question

    Hi all,

I have a newbie question. I am currently paying someone to heatpress vinyl names in glitter or metallic on cotton make up bags. I have purchased a plotter/cutter and heat press and I'm not going to try doing this myself. The question I have is what type of glitter and metallic Vinyl should I be getting that is easy to weed? Is there a type I should be looking for that makes the weeding easier and that is waterproof/durable?

Also when designing the names, I am guessing I can't use photoshop but need a vector based software? Is coreldraw or illustrator the way to go?

Also, any help on good suppliers for this easy weed glitter metallic vinly would be very grateful.

    Many thanks!

If all you're doing is cutting names from vinyl then don't waste good money on Photoshop, Illustrator, or Coreldraw. Instead, check out whether Sure Cuts A Lot ( http://www.craftedge.com/products/products_scal.html ) supports your cutter. This software has vector design as well as cutting features and is easy to use and powerful even though it's very inexpensive. You can download a free trial to fully check all the features, but be aware that the free trial will cut a watermark over your designs.

SCAL handles fonts very well, allowing you to use any fonts already installed on your computer. It runs on both Windows and Mac computers.

Thanks all for your replies. I have the following PixMax Vinyl Cutter Plotter: http://www.monsterdoodles.co.uk/viny...n_cut_pro.html

I bought it over a year ago and am now starting to use it. What software can I use to do both the vector design (simple names) and the cutting software? I did initially have signcut pro but that's expired. I am wondering as I am only doing names if there is a free vector design and cutting software.

    Thanks.

Inkscape will do the job, but not as well as SCAL that I mentioned above.

    Thanks. Any thoughts on https://www.easycutstudio.com/buy.html?

What about SignCut pro? Will I still need vector software if only doing names?

And another Q (sorry!) I am getting mixed reviews as to whether my plotter cutter (pixmax) is Mac compatible. I think it might be something to do with the cable? Does anyone please know?
