Printing Mugs - Now this is a first!!!

So I just spent ages taping up 36 mugs (Yeah I know, I'm slow) getting the warps put on, finally after a long day I get the oven on and cook the first 12.....

Well, they've come out as white as they went in! Bloody hot but no trace of any print whatsoever!!!!

Only explanation is that they're not sublimation coated, yes, they should be. Ovens at right temp, transfers are subli ink...all usual newbie questions covered ;-)

Oh well, customer won't be collecting these on Monday :-(

Are you sure you have wrapped them ink side facing the mug?

Oh, was I supposed to use ink? Do you think I can convince the customer that they 'are' printed and she's going mad? Maybe I could sell them on as Wow mugs with a slight fault?

The design wasn't based on The Emperor's New Clothes by any chance?

Ovens? Have you been taking advice from socialgiraffe? You clearly wern't paying attention.

Tell the customer that you'll see the print when the boiling water is poured in.

Justin are these balmoral bone china out of interest? We had a whole box of duds recently where none of them were coated.

I actually learnt how to print mugs tonight!

I decided to see how low I could get my temperature using Adkins presses..I normally print fairly high temp, quick time to speed through the batch. I was getting cold patches on the middle of the mugs. Dropped temperature to 160 degrees with 220 -240 seconds. Bingo! Even my awkward yellow designs with big black blocks of text fixed. Low and slow is the way to go.... and a hell of lot less frantic.

Referencing older conversations....switching back to Trupix fixed my 1500W feed problems. And the Freesub twin press had temperature consistency issues...faulty, so I'll get that refunded and put it towards an oven of some description.

I had Listawood mugs delivered and same the thing happened - when I rang them they said they'd sent me the wrong type of mug - they were supposed to be for screen printing, not sub so didn't have a coating.
