    OKI 711WT and software

Managed to get hands on an Oki but without software or drivers. I’m sure I can find drivers to download but can one print directly from Photoshop or do you need something else to let Photoshop know to print white?

Also, any difference between The Magic Touch CPM 6.2 paper and Forever Multi-trans for use on dark mugs?

Magic Touch have their own Space Control software to print through. Not sure if it's available separately?

    Yikes! Yes it is...

Ooooo that's not cheap. I am hoping there is a basic switch in the driver (printer properties) to turn white on/off as we only want to print onto hard substrates. If anyone has the software they want to sell let me know :-)

Wherever you bought the Oki from should also have the driver or basically, you cannot control the white ink.
You can print from Corel and change the paper to whatever you use but the white toner and colours will always be wrong. Yes, Ive tried it. If you use the OKi a lot then as the white toner is so expensive its worth getting the Space control or the RIP from Forever.

YES, you really MUST have a special driver as generic / windows cannot deal with white toner.

TMT have a dongle controlled 'space control' and forever have similar.

There are issues about controlling CMY to create your black, and different media have different white underbase and colour matching issues.
Also, - need to slow the printer down to get longer fuser times for different transfere media.
I suspect that you will be better off paying for the proper setup and RIP controller than trying to re-invent the wheel yourself.
    Also,
DO NOT use 3rd party toners.
Fuser results are disappointing after the new toner has worked ins way into the system, and we got very much shorted drum life too ....

Logobear - thank you, such a great reply. I've just been offered the Forever RIP (older version) on a USB stick for £100 so will take them up on it and apparently it is only £99 to upgrade to 2018 version. I'm not quite sure where the time will come from to learn about this new printer! Perhaps that is on offer as well :-)

getting used to the 2 part process is a learning curve... and when sets are 2 or 3 quid a got you get nervous .......
Once you have it, easy, but you will probably hate it until you get it!

Full price for the Forever RIP is 399€ so you've got a bargain.

Well apparently I need to buy the update software as the key is out of date so in total it will be £200 rather than £400 so guess that's still not too bad. Got the printer will full toner for £800 and about 200 sheets of forever paper for £25. Just need to gain some knowledge and work out if we can use the RIP with Photoshop or whether we need to use Coral Draw (never used before). The guy said they always had trouble using the RIP with Adobe products so think this isn't going to be as easy as I thought!

you create a transparant flat file in RGB and then open it up in the rip.
You can create the file however you want.
    We use flat .png files.
Best to crop tight to edges as they are still concidered part of the image if you want to max out print size on your media.
