Anyone know about self weeding transfers?

Can anyone tell me about self weeding transfers, specially whether you need a specialist printer and or inks, and how the media itself actually works?

i’m thinking About it for applying to wood mainly but also the t shirt aspect would be of interest to.

And you will need the vinyl to go with it. Not 100% self weeding but very near.

I do and it is a service I offer...

If you are wanting a transfer system for wood I recommend RST paper by The Magic Touch. I have used it on a few different projects and it has worked very very well. With regards to transfers for garments. This is a bit of a different beast, my personal preference is WOW and T.One, but I know others who dislike T.One as it is a bit of a learning curve and requires a nice tight weave to work.

Look up RST Transfer on You Tube and there is a great video showing how it presses and how you don't even need a heat press (not tried that method personally though).

The other types of transfers for garments are a crystal vinyl for light garments (not self weeding but pretty good), or there are also the Forever papers.

I have used one of the Forever paper for a really cheap job, it is not good for garments as it leaves a hand feel, but very cheap. They also have other transfer papers which are probably just as good as The Magic Touch ones, but as I have not used them I can not comment.

For most of the papers above you need an OKI printer configured with white toner, or for the Crystal you need a Versacamm. Or someone like me ;-)

I was going to mention the Oki system but they are an expensive option. I have the Oki 711wt and have used it with TMT paper. And ive just ordered the A3 version but this time with the Forever papers. TMT is well supported in the UK but surprisingly TMT is not.
Forever have some very good Youtube sites for help with the papers and the RIP.
    https://www.blacktonertransfer.com/
    https://www.whitetonertransfer.com/

Im looking forwards to getting the printer and learning the Forever paper and especially the RIP software.

I used the Forever Universal recently on a job that was very tight on budget. Have to say that the paper printed really well and could not fault it.

If their premium papers are anything like as good as the cheap Universal stuff (similar to TMT's TTC) then you are in for a treat :-)
