It's more like a dithering problem like webtrekker said.
If you print through VPM it is error diffusion dithering, which gives very bad results in clear skies and white / grey backgrounds (banding appears).
I've printed the same document through VPM and directly from Acrobat (where I changed the dithering). The dots are gone, but now I have e checkboard pattern.
I'm going to test this a bit further and let you know if I find something.

Hi everyone, any luck in fixing this issue? I am getting dots aswell literally had an SG400 a week :( I am currently using corel draw 12 (old i know, but i had it available) before spending even more getting back into sublimation and colours dont seem right when actually printing through the printer instead of VPM.

    Thanks

Just out of curiosity, are you using Sawgrass inks or cheaper third party ones?
I just wondered if this was linked to the VPM software update that fell out with non-Sawgrass ink.

Hi I have been having this same issue for some years now and not been able to sort the problem.

I still use Ricoh 3110dn printers as well which don’t have the problem but are end of line so difficult to get hold of now and so have always wanted to change over to SG400 but had the problem which two of them I purchased, only using them for printing onto soft substrates which doesn’t show the problem as much due to texture of for example a pillow in comparison to an aluminium sheet.

I did hear of a solution from Sawgrass which allows you to use the colour profile designed for the old Ricoh 3110s which can be easily switched over to as they have it in built into the newer VPM, I tried it but did not make a difference for me.

it anyon else finds a solution let me know.

Attached images show how to change over to the different colour settings designed for the Ricoh SG3110dn as provided by Sawgrass, interested to see if it fixes the issue for anyone else. Also examples of the problem attached test prints.

    thanks

    Did anyone find a solution?

i have an epson and have tiny pin prick sized dots all over my lights colours (yellows the worst) it happened regardless of whether I print an image (300dpi) or just text, also whether I use PS or another programme. I’ve done nothing but waste ink and mugs

I have printed several palettes over the past week. It feels like this is just the way the colors are built up. I’m still in a conversation about this with my supplier and sawgrass. Some colours are very hard or impossible to hit without those dots. It will be either too saturated or too dotted... I’m not sure if it’s a sawgrass problem or a problem of the way these printers use the CMYK spectrum with dithering. I’d love a solution as well. If I find any I’ll let you know.
