    Ricoh/Sawgrass Sublimation Ink Tests

    Another supplier test, (you'll get bored of these soon) that we wanted to share with you all.

    Myself and Alex have always struggled with Ricoh and Sawgrass ink suppliers.

    There are 2 things that always bugged us;

    1. Pillar box red prints always seemed to have an orange look.
    2. The black ink we received from multiple suppliers was always that murky brown mix of all 3 colours rather than the dense black we're used to with Inktec's Epson inks.

    After profiling these inks results were good, but it never sat well with us that they were not as good as the results on an Epson.

    We put it down to differences in the print heads.
    Epson's will always show better detail in their prints than Ricoh's will, but the colours should match.

    Now we're at our own place new product testing has started, and once again I've had the joyous task of filling multiple RIC with different inks and testing them all.

    I'm glad we did though as one suppliers ink has started to tick all of the boxes.

    Their black ink is, surprisingly, black when you look at it (left is the new ink, right is our previous supplier's).

    And in a draw down test it proved to be denser.

    Before getting our hopes up though the important part is in the printing.

    Cartridges filled, installed, and the print head purged, we did a couple of print jobs to get our profiling done.
    All went well and we moved onto testing with aluminium sheet pressing.

    Here are the results;

    To say we're impressed is an understatement, and we have just ordered some of their inks for other manufacturer models (yay, more testing! )

    Have any of you ever suffered with murky blacks or "orangey" reds?
    If so how did you combat them?

    Thanks for that. Really impressive. I love your approach to testing everything thoroughly and not just accepting things at face value.

    Thanks Webtrekker, as you say we approach testing with an open mind and will do it as thoroughly as required. We must have tested 8+ Ricoh sub inks (3 from the major players) and we are really pleased with our ink and the results it achieves.

    We have more things in the pipeline, just need to get round to testing them :)

    Wow that’s a big difference in the blacks!

    I was thinking of changing from epson to the Ricoh sg800 but now I don’t think I will bother.
