Question Brand New Epson Printer Observation

    Hello.

Having just received my brand new Epson printer (XP-352) in the post, I started to remove all the plastic wrapping/protection.

I opened it up as the mains plug was stored inside and noticed a black sponge which didn't look like it was seated properly. The sponge is wet to touch.

Could someone please enlighten me as to what this sponge is, what it's for and if I should be pushing it back into place.

For some reason it won't let me add an image so here's a link to it instead.

    Thanks people!

The sponge is the ink pad, and it is designed to soak up excess ink that may occur.
From the picture it looks like it is not seated properly, so it might need to be returned.

Who did you buy it from?

Ink Experts. Their after sale support has been brilliant so far.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Rusty,

The sponge pad that runs the width of the printer (known as the over spray pad) will be damp to the touch as well the pad that is underneath the printer head on the far right. This is because the printing heads have a transfer fluid inside them to prevent them from drying out. This does get on to the foam pads hence the damp feel.
