Roland GS-24 Vs Graphtec CE Lite

Hey everyone, I'm looking at getting a vinyl cutter or if even possible a printer/cutter, price dependant on that though.

Currently looking between the Roland GS Camm-1 GS 24, and the Graphtec CE LITE.

Has any one had any experience with either or both.
What are the pros and cons?

There is about £600 in difference in price between them, and I'm looking for something similar in width to what both cut.

    I'm looking to spend £500-£1300.

Are there other cutters out there for that price that are similar, better or even printer/cutters for around that price that are decent?

I'm looking Initially to do heat transfer vinyl on to garments, then broaden out on to other stuff.

    Any advice appreciated.

I can't say about Graphtec but I never heard a bad word about them.
But I can vouch for Roland. GX-24 camm1 is the older brother of GS. Is perfect for the job. its a tank and can cut transfers and anything that you need ;)
second hand can be taken for under £600.

You are not comparing identical products. The Roland is 24"/61cm and the Graphtec CE lite is 20"/50cm. The comparable Graphtec is the CE6000 - 60 which would just fit your budget.

The CE Lite is not just a smaller version of the CE 6000-60, there are some differences in spec. On the CE Lite cutting force and speed are not so great and accuracy is only guaranteed to 1m. Do your due dilligence to ensure it meets your requirements.

I had a quick look at the CE-6000...
But the other graphtec caught my eye because of price.

I'll be checking out a bunch, just not I'm looking at as many different once and trying to weigh up and find out as much as I can about them all.

If price is the deciding factor then wait for the new Silhouette pro, due next Feb. It is a 24" version of the silhouette - similar price to the CE Lite, but higher spec ( on the face of it ).
You wil then have the choice between a high spec 'hobby' cutter or a lower spec light commercial model. Your own projected usage will determine which one to get. If you plan to use it all day long day in day out then go for the CE Lite. If you will only be using it an hour or two several days a week then the Silhouette Pro could last for years.

How about the GS 24 and the CE 6000?

I plan on using the machine more and more, mainly for garments to start with to compliment the sublimation I do or be the main way I do garments, then move on to other things one at a time, once I've got the hang of them.

A lot will depend on what these 'other things' are. A cutter with a low cutting force will only ever be any good for thin card, vinyl, etc. If you have any plans for cutting heavier stuff (for instance, my Silver Bullet machine is used for cutting magnetic sheet, 250micron Mylar, heavy mirrored card, etc) then you need to consider the maximum cutting force and whether the machine is able to use a cutting mat or not.

My SB will also engrave on metal and acrylic with an engraving tool replacing the blade.

Print & Cuts are done using a separate printer (my Canon Pixma, or Ricoh sublimation printer) and the machine has a deadly accurate red laser dot registration mark system.

Thanks everyone for the info. As usual theres always more and more to research haha.

My main aim, is vinyl cutting. The magnetic cutting is something I have thought about too.

I am looking to get something that isnt just limited to vinyl cutting. If possible for the budget I'm looking looking at.

The GS24 and the CE6000 are directly comparable, in that they are similar size, price and performance. Either will provide you with plenty of scope for growth without needing to upgrade ( unless you need something wider). I doubt if you will go wrong with either. Unless someone has experience of both then any recommendation will be down to personal opinion.

I've went for the GS24, i was at a supplier event yesterday and got discount on one, and as there isnt much between the CE6000 and GS24 for what I want to do, I thought it was the logical choice to make and save some money.
