DTG Printers

Anyone got a DTG system recently and can share their experiences. Polyprint Texjet looks okay, Brother GTX though quite a bit more expensive, Resolute R-jet 5i are around but maybe a bit older school, thinking about these sort of level printers not Kornit and £30k+. Looked at the Roland offering at P&P which is comparatively cheap but not sure it has the capability of these others but interested in opinions on that too.

the Roland is a baby - Richo rebadge I think, - only CMYK - no white i think ....

I have seen both the polyprint & the brother - which costs about double, but I think will be a better buy.
Interested what you imagine using one for?

Good question logo, one I've debated myself. There are those jobs with logos and/or designs that neither embroidery or digital printed &/or cut vinyl do well enough and the customer doesn't want dyesubbed white polyester. That leaves forever/oki/transfer type systems with costly materials and fiddly processes which never really appealed and make it difficult to get payback (got a sun angel white printer here), screen print which realistically is a 30+ run/setup so that leaves only DTG. The reasons for considering DTG is that your either a specialist garment decorator concentrating on a specific process or you are a specialist in offering a garment decoration service and for the latter you need to be in it to win it as there are others who have DTG and get that customer. The rub is setup cost of a decent system and making it pay back which takes more than an occasional customer or difficult design so you also need to develop a market to sell to and that is the more tricky bit.

Hi. Ill put in my two cents worth. DTG´s are great only if you can use them every day. And I mean every day. Weekend, holidays too. Or the heads will dry up. Even the latest models have this problem so dont listen to the sellers saying this is not so. I was at an in house trade show recently and even they were having problems with their demo printer.
But the print quality was amazing.
I ended up buying the Oki A3 printer with the Forever Rip and papers and am very happy with it. In over a month I have printed around 120 t-shirts and Hoodies. Front and back. Now the Oki will sit in the office and probably wont be used for another few days. No problem with head blockages, just turn it on and it works. The Rip needs a little learning but once mastered it works great.
My views but be careful, DTG must be used regularly .

This maybe the case with most DTG units but the Epson F2100 is very different.

We have two F2100's in our showroom that are only used for demo's , they can sit for a week without use with no problem at all. The Epson F2100 has a cleaning cartridge in the unit that keeps the head from drying up, this is £13.04 ex vat per cartridge and will last around 3 months. As long as the machine is left on it will take care of itself.

The Epson F2130 is the F2100, it just has a different code depending on what part of the world its sold in. I think its called the F2130 in Indonesia, if you google search F2130 you will find YouTube videos from April this year.

These t-shirts have just come out of the washing machine for the umpteenth time. They were printed on the All American stand at FESPA, Munich, June 2010 - I know, I was working on that stand

They were printed on the original NeoFlex, with DuPont Artistri inks and DuPont pre-treatment.

9 years on, they're still vibrant and showing no degradation in the print.

I'm afraid they're a little crinkly at present as I've just hung them out to dry.
