    New MAC OS Update Warning

    Hi all,

    Just a quick PSA.

Apple have updated their OS recently, and as some of you may already know this often messes with your print drivers.
This can cause your colour correction to go a bit haywire resulting in bad prints.

Apple often update their OS without sending a sample SDK to manufacturers.
This results in a game of catch up, trying to update their code to compensate for Apple's changes.
It can take some time to release a stable driver, so patience is key.

We recommend not updating until your printer manufacturer has issued an update to their print drivers.

Once available they can be downloaded directly from the printer manufacturer's website, (eg, www.epson.co.uk/support).

If you have already updated, and rolling back the update is not an option, unfortunately it is a waiting game.

Rest assured an update will come, and once installed it should be business as usual.

Hope this helps some of you.

I've always been a Windows bloke myself, but from what I'm reading I'd avoid like the plague upgrading to Catalina on a Mac.

Many businesses will still be running legacy 32-bit software for which there is NO support in 64-bit only Catalina. So, as well as having many driver issues, it may be that some of the daily software and plugins you depend on to run your business will no longer work after 'upgrading' the OS.

This is a bad situation, but seeing as Apple are a hardware-oriented operation and not software-oriented (like Microsoft, who do their best to support older, 32-bit applications) then it's obvious that somewhere along the line they'll be wanting (forcing?) you to upgrade your hardware (which Apple make exclusively themselves, of course!).

    Exactly right.

If you ask Alex he'll tell you I'm not the biggest fan of Apple, and can be fairly vocal on the subject lol.

We have had a few phone calls from Mac users already, asking why their prints were good one week and the very next week the same print could look completely different.
It's the same story every time, and this happens every year.

I don't understand why they can't give manufacturers a quick heads up of what is coming, a sample of the new code and a deadline to get new drivers done.

If Microsoft can, why can't Apple?

I'm also a PC man but do have a Mac sat here not that it does much! I updated yesterday funnily enough. I guess I won't see any major issues as I don't print from it but wonder if it can be returned to previous install?
